Did you try to install it from within vista or did you boot up with the xp cd in the drive?

When you powered it on, did it prompt you to boot from the drive? Did you set the bios to boot from cd first?

Is the copy of XP a full version or an "upgrade" version?

Would you be able to post some screen shots of your bios and the errors it gives you? There might be some kind of residual boot loader or something left in the memory. Might have to flash the bios, but don't quote me on that. I hear vista is a bit of a pain in the a$$ to dual boot so it may have something to do with it.

^thats what Im thinking, well Ill post some pics tomorrow hopefully, Im at work now and all I have at my house is my notebook, but every forum I have been to is telling me the same thing, so im gonna try to use a residual boot loader first and hopefully that will work if not Ill post some pics to show you all what it is telling me, thanks everyone so much for there input!

I just watched something on youtube that I didnt even think about when I was trying to do this last night, should I put my New Xp Disc in the drive and boot up and when the screen comes up, enter to install, or press R for recovery console, should I have pressed R first and tried to format in throught that first and then reboot and trhn press enter to install? or do you think i will need to still use a residual booter?

I figured it out, I had to change the boot order in the BIOS and all worked like a charm, only problem Im having trouble finding the drivers for my soundcard, everywhere I go and everyone I talk to seems to tell me that they dont exist for XP, so Im done with MS, Im gonna go in the next week or two and get a MacBook Pro, I have an HP Notebook dv9339us that will be up in the classifieds at best offer price, its brand new and Ill put vista back on and have it sent to whomever the way it was when I purchased it. So if anyone knows anyone who would like this notebook pm me and it will be sold at a deal.

ps. $%^& Microsoft.

well if it's an hp notebook, i'm sure another hp product has xp drivers for it. did you go to hp's website or google hp drivers for your notebook model? usually works for me even though the notebook was made for vista, you should still be able to download vista drivers and use them for xp

Just a quick note...in the BIOS disable "Native SATA Mode" - XP setup will then see the hard drive. That or install SATA drivers by pressing F6 during the initial setup process (you may have to visit HPs website for your model laptop). This works for me when that same problem occurs.

If you know the sound card model, it's easier to find. I doubt they're using anything that is Vista specific. If anything, there's some DRM in vista drivers so if it's a special card, it'll perform even better.
