Default A Conservative's Perspective

First things first: Congratulations to everyone who voted for Obama. It was great to see the huge numbers of people at the polls yesterday.

America has just had a historic election. We elected the most inexperienced and unqualified candidate in our country's history. That's not a dig...it's simply a fact. I just pray that it doesn’t bite us in the @ss.

I could easily sit here and rehash all of the same arguments again, but that wouldn’t really suit any constructive purpose. The fact is, we (conservatives) lost this one. Obama will be our next president. It’s time to start trying to work together. America is, and always has been, the greatest country on the planet. If we can put aside our partisan bickering and actually think about what is best for the country instead of what’s best for our party, we’ll be much better off. I hope Obama will make decisions based on what is right, not what will benefit his backers or his special interests.

I have decided to give myself a challenge that I would like to extend to all conservatives who voted against Obama. Love him or hate him, he will be our president. As such, I will try my best to give him a chance to prove himself. I will try to remain respectful even when voicing my disapproval of things he does (unlike the liberals have done with President Bush). We can be bigger people than that and rise above it. Because I am a person of faith, I intend to pray for Barack Obama on a regular basis. The job he just won is probably the toughest one there is.

Amen,

Its nice to hear a mature respone to Obama's victory, most of the comments I hear from conservatives are things like "A vote for Obama is a vote for Osama" or "Welcome to the Communist States of America." He has not even been sworn in, nobody, liberals or conservatives, can know how great of a job he is going to do. And we can be bigger people than all of the bickering that is going on; we are American, and united, we can overcome anything. If he does do an amazing job as president (which we all hope), and I mean this lightheartedly, some of these over-the-top conservatives making comments about communism, etc... will be stuck with their foot in their mouth, the partisan mud-slinging can cease, and we can all work together to bring this country out of the hole its in and to a higher level. It doesnt matter whether you sit left or right, or even in the middle, you should always have faith in your country and be more than thankful that you are American.
