Why don't you just follow the rules of your state? What do you need a tinted license plate cover for? If you use it to hide your plate from being caught on camera speeding through red lights, it won't work.

Cops are always out to get young looking drivers in cars that are slightly or heavily modified thinking they'll probably go street racing. I've been pulled over and the cop wanted to know why I had squeeled on an onramp to the I-5 late at night. Told him my tires didn't have good traction anymore (which was true) and squeeled no matter how fast I was going. He also thought I might've been drinking too because of that. Infact I had gotten off of work and was happy to be out! I'd rather the cops around here be going after the a-holes speeding dangerously and those tailgating too close.

Either way.. why purposely take the chance with things on your car that will attract attention in a bad way?

So my radar is going crazy and I realize there is a cop on the side of the road, he wait till the three cars behind me all go pulls out and throws his lights on. He pulls up behind all of us and as each pull over he ignores them and just follows me. I make it to a light, turn right on red and into a parking lot right next to there.

The cop comes up and asks for license and registration and all the good stuff. So I comply in a state of depression and act sad because if I recieve one more speeding ticket, goodbye license. He sits next to my car and eyes down my registration and insurace like a hawk right next to my car? At this point im lost, im like what is going on.

He then proceeds with the other cop back to the vehicle. I watch outta my sideview mirror the passanger cop throwing his hands up like "What should we do?" and I can tell that is exactly what he is saying.

So another five minutes pass and still nothing. Finally the cop comes over and informs me that he is giving me a ticket for my license plate cover, with a confused look on my face I agree. He tells me that it is reflective and is illegal ( I know this and play dumb) He makes me sign and says, its getting close to curfew. I tell him i just left the central hockey game and dropped my friend off and am heading home.

He proceeds to just leave.

This isn't the first time I have been pulled over for something like this. I was pulled over earlier this year and the reason was my car looked like some sort of drug dealer car? I was taken out and searched. The my father contacted the officer and he said the car was suspicious and the blue underdash lights (i forgot to turn off ) were illegal and I was lucky for not gettin a ticket for those.

What is with this, I feel that ever since I've lowered, put and exhaust on and tint the windows the legal limit, there after me... WTF!
hmm....so you illegally modified your car, and you think its not fair, or some kind of conspiracy that you get pulled over/ticketed???

look at the majority of the other cars on the road? are they illegally modified? no. yours is. hence why you're getting pulled over.

and yes, stereotypical "young person" cars that are modified will attract attention, since the obvious assumption is, "where does this kid get the money to do all these mods to his brand new $17,000 car???" a logical explanation is selling drugs.

not that i agree with it, heck, i've experienced the same thing. but thats the way it is, if u dont like it, then don't mod your car.

and certainly don't do anything stupid like a license plate cover which is CLEARLY illegal and pointless. you're just asking for them to pull u over.

I got pulled over for a plate cover a few years ago... the cop made me take it off or get a ticket.

I didn't have tools on me, so I had to break it off with my hands. I don't run plate covers anymore.

Actually, now that I think about it, that was the only time I've ever been pulled over.

i got a ticket for my tint, which in my state 30 is supposedly the legal limit. my tint is just below that, but the cop was apparently able to determine the slight difference in gradient with only his eye (not a light meter or swatchbook), despite that i told him it was done by the dealer. AND despite the fact that the mini-van parked next to me had a CLEARLY darker tint.

in court, i fought it, and the judge gave me an extension so i can go find the ficticious salesperson who told me the tint was "legal" at the dealership when i got it done and get some documentation of that.

obviously, thats not going to happen.

but the point is, the cop had NO way of telling exactly how dark my tint is, it was a totally arbitrary decision.

I was also pulled over in the same township by a female cop who said she could tell i was speeding based on her vision and experience, Ie. no timing or speed measuring device used. despite that i was in 3rd going 40 in a 35.

well, i was wondering, do you think if i went to court and told them that i bought the plate at advance auto parts, and there is no place on it that says it is illegal for highway/road use, how was i susposed to know that it was illegal.

me nor my father were aware that it was illegal, he told me to get it because he said it would look good on the car.

what would come of that because, ive had countless cops sit behind me at lights, no problem.

I EVEN HAD THE SAME COP one night try to write me a ticket for parking on the wrong side of the road while I was in my car with the car on waiting to go but the road was blocked and he wrote me the ticket WHILE MY COVER WAS ON.

thats the real problem right there, that civilians don't know the laws..... because our gov't doesn't do a good enough job of informing us, and if you do seek out the info on your own, it is very hard to find and difficult to interpret.

technically, in PA, the only stipulation is that "you must be able to safely see into the passenger compartment of the vehicle"... now if thats not a subjective law, i don't know what is.

as i tried to tell the cop, you CAN easily see into my car, its just got a black interior, so when you're looking through tint at black fabric, its going to look very dark.

Cops are cool.

If you:

Obey the law
Be polite
Don't be a "wanna be thug"

Cops won't kick your ****.

Everytime I see a cop beating a criminal with his baton or tazering his ****... I jump up for joy and bust open a cold one and light a cigar.

Let say Your going 50 on a 30 in front of me, with me going at the same speed and a cop is by the road with a radar gun. As far as I know of a cop can only radar one car at a time and pull over only one car so naturally the car in front will get pulled over because he got radar'ed. When I was reading it sounds like one of the officer's was unsure whether or not he tagged you or the car behind you.

well listen to this.

my friends talked to the cop that issued me the ticket at a high school football game, he said that he saw me maybe a half and hour earlier speeding, WHEN I WAS AT A HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY GAME THE PREVIOUS TWO HOURS.

he also said tell your friend (me) not to contest the ticket because he isnt going to let it go. he spefically said that.

thats bullsh!t.

he did say the car that he saw, which was a scion and had to be N\A was fast.
he was like i saw his car (meaning mine when it wasnt) and next thing i knew it was off in the distance.

i got pulled by a state trooper at MIDNIGHT after working since 7 in the MORNING. it was after working at the blueberry festival doing "trash duty" for the public works department picking up roughly 10,000 peoples crap. i pulled into mcdonalds to grab a bite before going home and heard something roar up behind me, looked in the rear view and saw the crown vic flashin his blue lights. i was doing like only a couple over the speed limit, no more than every other car does, and the tires squeeled going around one turn but was completely unintentional. he talked to me for a minute and looked at my license then let me go. i think he was looking for DUI's cuz people get HAMMERED at the blueberry festival in burgaw, nc. but i guess after he talked to me and realized i hadn't been drinking he let me go.

but this is what gets me. he mentioned the tires squeeling going around one turn, tells me to slow it down a bit, goes back to his car, backs up, and the first thing he does is squeel the tires RIGHT BEHIND ME, then pulls up beside another trooper in the parking lot to talk. so it's not like he was trying to leave fast to go to a call.

luckily i was driving my dad's mazda protege 5 which is all stock. driving the tc would've been an automatic ticket. but my dad wanted me to drive his car cuz i had to park in the ghetto and work like a mile away.

Pulled over AGAIN today... this time, specifically and only for my tint. LOL, and I have a continuance in another county for the same thing, I told the judge it was legal and he told me to get documentation from the installer... since the cop never measured my windows, and just estimated that they were illegal (less than 30% in PA).

so i JUST mailed out a letter to the judge, telling him that i couldn't provide documentation and I wanted to waive the hearing, they can keep my fine.

less than 5 minutes after mailing that letter, i get pulled over....not even for speeding. just tint. jesus, do these cops have nothing better to do?!!

i explained the situation and the guy was nice enough to let me off with a warning. this cop actually HAD A LIGHT METER... go figure. and my tint read "15%"...which thinking back, is exactly what i was told when i purchased, i think.

but how the F does the first cop get away with just guesstimating that my tint is illegal, while this cop actually had a light meter on hand to test. I argued that point in court at the first hearing for my ticket, and the judge basically blew me off.

i know i need to get my two door windows lightened, but seriously, if tinting is going to be against the law, they should have clearly defined laws that all citizens know about. its BS that every soccer mom can drive a minivan with LIMO-TINT on the rear 3/4 of the car (so that when you're behind them, you can't see anything in front of them through the windshields) and other vehicles can be tinted darker than 30%.

even the cop told me, theres actually 2 separate laws: one says it must be possible to safely see inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle (which u can in mine); the other says the window tint must be 30% or higher. While they're not in direct contradiction, it is very questionable.

the bottom line is, the first cop gave me a ticket for window tint without even knowing for sure or having any proof that my tint was illegal. at least the 2nd cop had proof (light meter).

now if thats not targeting a vehicle, i don't know what is. I see dozens of cars flying down the same stretch of road outside my work every day, lots with dark tints too. yet they single out the scion tc...... JDM-tuner car-envy.

what? or perhaps... an actual job? haha. i would give a police officer the blankest stare EVER if he implied that my modding money came from drug sales

i don't have a license plate cover. and technically, anything that obstructs view of the plate is illegal, so any plate cover is not kosher.
