Debate: Should marijuana be legalized?
CHANGE THIS THREAD!!! *How much do you spend on pot every month?*
Smokers? Be honest. Mine is more than my car payment and insurance combined.
(ZOIKS! Just realized that!) Usually a little over $300/month. Small price to pay for "peace of mind".
Even if they don't actually legalize it, they could at least give us some clearance sales or coupons or something....

i'm honestly not trying to play "analyze and debate", but isolating yourself from family is a sign of depression, not being stoned, and not answering the phone, ok that's probably from paranoia from being high. maybe from depression. I got alot of that in my family, "Back in the day" I was manic depressive. 1800mg of lithium a day is what i finally settled on until i found the magic of lsd, that changed my outlook, and helped me fix my emotional problem. Nowadays, if i didn't smoke weed, i would probably be on anti-depressants.
I don't know if I'm willing to go back and try the seattledave way of smoking pot. If anything they say is true about addiction, I'll be back into my old ways, if not worse.
If you come to my house though, I would smoke with you. I'm that weak that this thread has got me all wanting to try it again... just once. LOL

I know that pot can be just as addictive to people as any other drug. Sure, not physically like heroin but psychologically.
When you use pot all day long, everyday, you loose the ability to cope with emotions without being high. You forget how to deal with sadness on your own. You forget how to have fun without being high. You become uncomfortable doing normal, everyday tasks. Most of your friends smoked pot... now you can't hang around them because pot is such a big part of that relationship and a big part of them. You get lonely. These are many of the reasons one would relapse from ANY drug... and pot surely fits into that picture.
I think people who smoke pot can, especially if they have an addictive personalities, have many of the same problems as someone who is addicted to a "harder" drug. Perhaps not some of the more drastic issues like selling their body... but that naturally comes when the pot doesn't get them high enough and they go on to something that will.
I take pot way more seriously than most people. I would do anything on earth to be one of the majority who can smoke pot and not have any sort of problems in life from doing so. I crave it now as I type this. I lost cars, credit, family members... it almost ruined my life. Yet, if I were to be offered a hit right now... I'd have absolutely no confidence that I'd turn it down.
I'd love to see people be able to use it for medical purposes. I'm not sure about everywhere else but our laws aren't set in place to where this can happen very well. People who grow and sell for this purpose can still and do still get in trouble... blah blah blah.
I think that, if anything, our attitudes and thoughts of the drug need to change. It's not harmless. Even if you are able to just enjoy it and not have it rule or ruin your life, it's still not good for your health, at all.

So well put!! As a Daily toker for 20 years, I totally agree with all of the above.
Clean and sober for 10+ years now.
If only drugs were as simple as getting high and feeling good. But there are so many negative reprocussions when you use. Legal, or illegal substances, it doesn't matter.
If I was still using, I would of never been able to walk into a Scion dealer and say, "I'll take that one" and find myself driving a brand new XB home one hour later.
Or, come to think of it, buy a house, be close to my kids, etc...

We're not making much progress.
We're not making much progress.
i sorta have talked to my older brother (the 14 year old) about sex. he's well aware of how it works, and i'm sure he's seen a **** mag. like most boys his age, i'm not sure he's aware of when he's supposed to be able to want it.
Jenna, no offense, but if I was your kid, I'd start getting high NOW! I'm 30 and your earlier post about "bad people touching your private parts" has me spooked. I magine what a 'lil tot is imagining. You might want to revisit/reexplain that one to him...
Think I'll let my kid get through potty training before I delve into the wonderful world of rape.
Also, I guarantee if someone did swoop him up and take off, it wouldn't be a stoner that did it. Unless your kid looks like some super huge cheeto or a twinkie or something.

and she'll quit anyone of them for months. while yes she usually finds something to fall back on, she does go days without getting high on anything.
I'm mostly the same way, except i've limited myself to lsd/mdma/pot, i did have an addiction problem with meth when i was 14-16, though.
i'm guess i'm saying, people's willpower can be stronger than addiction. I bet you would say you could quit a pot addiction for your kids. Well whatever willpower you would muster for that, can be found elsewhere in your head. that mind over matter b.s.

I think it should be legal, but honestly, i've NEVER tried it(never even smoked a cigarette). Just make restrictions and laws against abusing it, like alcohol. I'm not sure if they have a Blood/Pot Meter or a breath analyzer that could estimate how high you are. Life is all about choices. People are going to do drugs regardless what laws are established. Cigarettes are legal, i've never smoked even one. If you're a user, you will still be a user. No matter what Mr. Law states.

You soooo did NOT see where I wrote, in the same paragraph, that I was speaking about my 11 year old son! Go re-read what I said!
Seattledave, no, it's not the first time I've spoken to him but one of the few first conscience efforts I've made to keep the sex talk up and to make him more comfortable.
Sorry Jenna, my bad. Still creepy picturing my mom saying that to me, pretty much at any age, but at least your making the effort. Maybe if my mom had spoke to me about drugs, I wouldn't be a smoker now? (And if my aunt had *****, she'd be my uncle.) I live a very active life, two jobs, girlfriend, hobbies, etc... if I didn't smoke, I'd probably have like 9 jobs and be a marathon runner. Helps me slow down enough to concentrate on task at hand I guess. May be all rationalization, but, I think it's more self-medication than addiction (said the addict).
make it legal, NO never, bunch of hippies go hug a tree or something, your the reason i carry a gun, you come at me while your high on drugs im gonna put one in your chest, thats just the way i feel about it, drugs do NOTHING and why cant people realize that, it only causes more problems for everyone, for the people that have kids and still do drugs, i hope child welfare takes them away from you and puts your but in jail,i could go on but i wont, its kinda funny because i just had this conversation with someone today at work when we were talking about the VT shootings.......

maybe 11 is too young? i was 14 when i lost my virginity, started really smoking cigarettes, pot and my 3rd day in 9th grade i tried lsd.
at 13 would of been a better time to talk to me
PhatPauly, I believe today is the closest I've been to talking to my 3 year old about sex. I went over the importance of pulling back the skin on his ***** and washing it, lol.
Hippies?
I don't think you've put a whole lot of thought into your post so hopefully this is especially true in this instance but you said you would like child services to take kids away from their parents if they're into drugs. You mean pot too, as this is a pot thread, right?
Let me make this clear first, I will never defend a person's right to or ever say that smoking pot and being a parent is responsible, but would you feel the same way if a parent participated in drinking alcohol too?
Lets be realistic here. Pot smoking parents usually aren't a threat to their children. Your proposal of having families torn apart... little kids ripped from their parent's loving arms, tax money being spent on not only foster care but to provide room and board fro the parents in jail, just for getting high?
