Who are we to decide if there is global warming? The earth goes thru warming and cooling cycles, man can not alter nature.
What will we do if we cave it to all the demands of the activists and ride bikes and everything else they want and it still gets warmer?
Again, the Earth is warming up. This is no longer a debate with any credible scientist. It does not make a hill of beans if it's because of the automobile, coal refineries, and/or volcanoes, the effects are being seen right now, and we are the ones that will have to deal with it. Reversing it would take a global effort that has never been seen, and will most likely never be seen even if we were invaded by aliens. It just won't happen. China and India are plowing ahead full force with coal factories that were modern 50 years, and in 10 years either country will likely surpass the EU and USA in CO2 emissions.

The rising oceans, shifting weather patterns, and growing desserts are what we have to deal with in the next 50 years, and we better start now.

One thing that irked me lately is these commercials for "clean" coal. Like suddenly coal isn't going to pollute. IT'S STILL COAL. It's still going to be the worst polluter. Stop using horrible ancient technology and propagating the disease.

How about switching to LED lights in homes that can use rechargeable batteries to power them without needing the powergrid at all. LEDs need practically no energy to run and the batteries can be charged with solar panels or small wind generators that can be installed on your home's roof. Even in inclimate weather, the stored charge should be sufficient to run your lights. Sure, it won't stop pollution, but it would greatly reduce the need to generate energy using horribly polluting power plants.

I agree with byerhone. I'll bring the aerosol cans.
goofy and extreme (on both sides) weather is a part of it. Keep in mind, there was only about 5 degrees different between now and the last ice age. 5 degrees, that's it.

keep this in mind New Years 2012 when it's 85 in Chicago.
I've lived in Chicago my whole life, so I know all about goofy weather.

But I'm not quite understanding what you're saying about the last ice age. If there was only a 5 degree difference, is that a bad thing? And if it is 85 on news years, I can finally laugh at all those people in California about their great weather year round

So now we'd have lights that wouldn't need power, but what about all the other needs for energy? How are you going to heat/cool your house, watch tv, microwave your burrito so on and so forth? Solar energy is an option, but I don't think the technology is advanced enough yet to soley rely on it without a back up option.

Ok, 5 degree difference in the Earth's temprature equates to 10 feet of snow in Mexico, and 30 feet of snow in Arizona; year round. That's what I mean. So when you hear about the temprature of the Eearth going up or down by a 10th or a 100th, it really is a big deal.

If it's 85 in Chicago on New Year's, it could mean a couple of things. One of those things means that it could be 125 - 145 in July. Or it could mean a shifting of seasons, meaning summer and winter will switch places and you'll burried in snow banks in July. At this point, we just aren't sure.

Like I said, there is no denying that the Earth is currently on a heating trend. The effects they are throwing out are only guesses, as we are in unchartered territory, but they are fairly educated guesses, and I don't think any of the scenerios are very good. The biggest damage is going to be our food supply and our coastal properties, as there are two things they know for sure: it will jack with our crops, and the oceans will rise.

We should never rely on any one source, ever. No matter how good it may look at first, and even prove to be later, one source for anything is always bad. Just ask a former Enron employee.

We need to use a variety of sources: Nuke (needs to be run by the Navy), solar, wind, hydro, tidal, geothermal, etc. Then we need a power grid that's robust, redundant, secure, and scalable to deliver the power everywhere it's needed.

Yea because this all started eight years ago. So if we go and find our selves another guy to be President global warming will stop.

Why not stop...... then learn to think for yourself.... and help the people in the world that know the past is the past find a relistic plan that the government cant say no to and then put that world effort into action?

I was just flaming George Bush because I have never liked him. Global warming has been around for a while now, but what is Bush really doing to help it? Stealing our money to build our army? We've already got the biggest military in the world.... why keep putting money into our military when it can go to science? I hate watching the news and seeing how our troops are being killed, and I blame Bush. If you watched the presidential debates a couple years ago, you would understand. Bush has a bad reputation of drinking and doing drugs in his high school days... think about that one.

China has the largest millitary in the world, we just have the most expensive.

And Shrub's party days were not limited to his days in high school or college for that matter. His removal from office will do as much for the enviroment as Sadaam's removal from office has done for stopping terrorism.

China has the largest military in the world if you count the 6 billion people that live there, but are they really trained to fight? No. (Sorry to get off subject.)

china has only like 1.3 billion people, the entire worlds population has just a little more than 6 billion.

it's crazy how the christian guys from the atheist debate are the ones debating it's real and wanting to see in front of their own eyes physical proof.

If you read any of my posts, you'd see that is my point as well. We are beyond fixing or reversing what is about to happen, we must now shift gears to determine how best to cope with it.

Not to go off topic, but apparently proof is required:

Uhm, no, it's not even a debate:

China wields by far the world's largest military, with 2.8 million soldiers, sailors and airmen—twice the American number.

However, size doesn't always matter, as the article points out in so many words ;)

Sorry for my ignorance then, I was taught completely wrong then :\. But I do know we happen to be very good friends with China... and I think it should stay that way.
