Default The Difference Between Rich/Poor People?

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his
son on a trip to the country with the express purpose
of showing him how poor people live. They spent a
couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be
considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his
son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah," said the son.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked
the father.

The son answered:

"I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have
a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and
they have a creek that has no end. We have imported
lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at
night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they
have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land
to live on and they have fi elds that go beyond our
sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve
others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they
have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how
poor we are."

^^ There is a difference in gansta trash and poor people you know. Not that living in the hood makes you gansta trash, but the large part of what makes the hood that way is the gansta trash.. who, as far as I am concerned are a waste of air :D The good, poor people in the 'hood would be a lot better off without those idiots.

Great post though.. every now and then a fowarded email is worth keeping. .this one is pretty good. I grew up poor, worked my butt off and now have it pretty good financially (although with the otherworries, and having to live in the city I sometimes wonder if I am really any better off ), so I definitely see the value in that post.

And as Claudia mentioned.. not everyone is the same.. while I was poor, one of my best friends was rich, and you couldnt tell it unless you went to his house.

Nothing in that story had anything to do with wealth, it seems to be more of an endorsement for living out in the middle of nowhere.. All they have to do is take their fortune and move to the country.... problem solved. Then they could have their creek, endless horizon, as many dogs as they want, and buckets of cash to top it all off! OK, so maybe they would have to fire their servant to get the full effect, big deal.

Seriously, does everyone believe that is actually a true story?

Eh, whatever, farmers are extremely wealthy. The real differences between rich and poor folks revolves around land ownership, education, and health care.

I don't think anyone is trying to say that story actually happened. It's simply a story with a moral. It's not about monetary wealth. It's about perspective and what things in life are important. A poor man who is happy with his lot in life is much more wealthy than a rich man who is unhappy.

What percentage of the rich people that you know live miles from the city? none that I know of unless they are truly wealthy and do not work. Jobs (especially high paying ones) are typically located in the city. For example my **** (and to the education point.. I came up poor and have a masters degree, you dont have to be poor and dumb your whole life) would not be living in the city if I could do the same thing out in the country. I had to move to the city to get the money I wanted in my career.

And no, I dont think it is a true story, but the meaning is there nonetheless. Unfortunately, most of the "rich" people I know arent worth my time, since they have a wool pulled over thier eyes as to what the real world is like, and have no understanding of those that live without. Hell, a whole "rich" area I know of fought to tear down a lower income housing project.. one in a very low crime area, to build nicer homes to improve land value for themselves, and could not understand why I found that repulsive... I mean.. what could possibly be wrong with taking poor people, who actually found affordable housing in a decent place, and forcing them further toward the inner city to help yourself out? Sickening.

To those that grew up rich and have morals, ethics and dont act like stereotypical rich people, I salute you. To the rest... well, you get the picture :D

Sorry, call me a cynic if you must, but I just think stories like that are extremely corny and transparent.... just my opinion. I don't mean to be offensive about it, it's just how I feel. I guess if nothing else, they're good for a chuckle or two.

engifineer, you're taking me too seriously. And to answer your question, What percentage of the rich people that you know live miles from the city?....While I currently live in a large city, I grew up in the suburbs where I made friends with several rich people, at least way richer than I. So... 100% of the rich people I know live far from the city.
