Yeah. Sort of like taking out dents in a fender with a baseball bat...

My favorite general purpose iron is the good old Cooper/Weller WPA2. Sadly, they don't even make the metal boxed "kit" with the WPA2 any more. For fine work I have a little British made 12W micro iron about the size of a PaperMate ballpoint... Only problem with it is they are no longer made, and I can't even get any more replacement tips.

I haven't had any problems with my little 15W iron. It takes forever to warmup, but it's peak temp is just warm enough to melt the solder. The only problem is that the tip is a little too big, so those tiny resistors are quite the biscuit. Then I have an adjustable Weller Soldering Gun for the bigger jobs :D.
