well as of feb 2009 there will no longer be analog signals...its all digital hence DTV..so if yopu dont have a digital tv you will need a analog to digital converter box to watch over the air tv ...so since mt tv is a digital tv all i needed was the antenna so i went and got one and the picture quality is awsome ..looks beter than cable imo ....here is the info for those that do not know what it is or is going on ..so basicaly you can get all the hd channels free of charge and it works unlike the old analog signal...

yes it is over the air channles digital ..you wil lstill get some analog but you will see what im talking about just put a antenna on and you will see what im saying ..this has been around for a while now in analog the digital is new,,,so example channel 11 will be 4 diffent channels it will say 11-1, 11-2,11-3 , 11-4 some will be the same thing just sd(standard tv)480i then 720p/1080i or it will be 3 different shows but same channel kinda hard to explain..

It only affects people who don't have cable/satellite. If your picking up basic stations through an antenna then you need a converter box come feb. 09 like vip camo said. So if you already have cable or sat. then this doesn't concern you at all.

Buy yeah down at my folks summer home we got a few of the boxes and picture is amazing now compared to what it was, and I think were picking up a few more stations. Pretty cool stuff.

You can go to this site, https://www.dtv2009.gov/, and apply for a 40$ coupon for one of the converter boxes at any retail store. Your allowed 2 coupons per household address.

Ya it is pretty cool how much people can get for free now, and the clarity of it.

So if DTV is decent, I wonder if I should just cancel my *** cable contract?

Only thing that sucks is you can't scroll through the tv guide and check channel info out, right? No special box & remote. I really like the tv guide, and setting reminders for shows, etc.

Would be a great alternative for multiple tv's rather than paying the extra money per month for a second cable box.

yeah as of right now there is no tv guide for it..right nw its just in testing from what i read and hear the full setup should be out feb...but so far i get alll my local channels in hd plus others ,but all i really watch is local anyways ,the office, football, simpsons i basically was paying cable just for comedy central not really worth all that to me..but def worth hooking it up to extra tv's///

I don't watch that much TV, so I refuse to pay for cable (on top of the $50 a month I already pay for high speed internet) so I'm using an antenna to get channels.

I got my DTV box too and I was surprised how crystal clear it is! Extra hidden channels too. It's great. I feel like I REALLY don't need to pay for cable now.
