usually if you have an old POS car like that, you don't care how you drive it so you can pull off all the heroic stunts you have the ***** and talent for. it is a nice old civic wagon with a turbo, for sure, but all he is doing is the stuff people really wouldn't do with their shiny new evo or sti unless they have the time money and/or know-how to fix it.
it is like jeremy clarkson said: you can have more run driving an m-registered ford fiesta around your own paddock however you like than you can driving a ferrari on the road obeying all the laws.
