FAQ: How to Threadjack, Vol. V
It always amazes me when kids (sorry, Eamon) get so bent out of shape over a few hours a day and a few months a year they spend going to school.
Do they ever stop to realize that once they get out of that environment they will be expected to spend much longer days throughout much more of the year and to actually WORK while so confined. For the rest of their lives.
Take advantage of the days you have now learning. It is probably much nicer and much easier than what you will end up doing the rest of your life, unless you are very lucky and end up in a job you absolutely love, and just can't get enough of.
Some time in the future you will likely look back on your days in school as "the good old days" when life was fine.

Oh how I miss the good old days....
Every time I drive by the university I get nostalgic.
(What's funny about "school" being better than work is that the jobs I had in the company I worked in for a quarter century were in many ways the ideal job for me - something I had targeted and worked toward since Junior High School ("Middle School" now, I guess).
Even better, though, is that the field was constantly changing and the company was constantly sending me to specialized schooling to learn more. They also would pay me to go to more college classes, and I took advantage of that, too.
The peak of my job being enjoyable was when I was "loaned" to Bell Labs by my company to write some manuals for the Bell System.
I lived in a nice condo on the "Jersey Shore" in Atlantic Highlands, and worked in Holmdel, NJ.
I also wandered up to Basking Ridge and Piscataway, NJ on occasion for work, and flew down to Winston-Salem, NC once a month to work with my editors.
Even when I wasn't working at the Labs, I used to fly from Seattle, WA to Piscataway, NJ, Lisle, IL, and Denver, CO for training fairly often, and even made it to Southfield, MI to do the initial testing of my service manuals in the field.
Not only was my job enjoyable, and not only did I end up going a lot of places around the country, I also went to too many places in WA, OR, and ID to even count.
I enjoyed being a field engineer, but even more I enjoyed researching and writing at Bell Labs. Some fascinating people there.
Except for very short periods (until I could get into another job), my work life was complex, involving, challenging, and thoroughly enjoyable.
I was one of the lucky ones.
Enjoy school while you can.

Depend on where "here" and "there" is, it may be great.

Bird- that guy is just a total butthat (haha). It's kind of a long, convoluted story. I can share later this evening when I have the patience to write it all out. It's funny though, when I went to the police station to speak with the officer, he hinted that he thought it was absurd and unwarrented.
