Any big beer fans in here? If so what are some of your favorites? I'd Like to try some new stuff out there. I know this looks a little bad for a car forum, but I figured someone must enjoy it as much as i do!

Im not a big fan of Domestics....the few that come to mind are Pliny the Elder, Pliny the Younger and Anchor Steams Steam Beer. Bud/Miller/Coors.....I wouldnt use them clean dog sh*t off the bottom of my shoe, let alone actually ingest them.

Enthusiast is a good word. Ive traveled to Belgium and visited some famous Abbeys in part to get my hands on some properly stored beer. I also went to The Kulminator in Antwerp just because they have a beer menu the size of a phone book….no joke either. Thousands of bottles reside in the cellar. So maybe enthusiast is not the right word…maybe madman is better.

Additionally, as you may have guessed by my name, I brew my own beer as well.

Pliny the Elder is a double IPA. Awesome! Heavy malt aroma and mouth are present to balance this extremely hoppy beer. For hopheads only! Simcoe and Amarillo are the prominent hop aromas. The Younger is like the Elder, but a triple IPA that clocks in at about 11%. Take your time with this beer. Both are made by Russian River.

Everything else on my list is from Belgium and if you have never had the Belgiums, start with the Abbey ales as they are more accessable thab the Sours and Lambics, which are in a league of their own. None are inexpensive, so single bottles are a wise choice ($4- $8 per 11.2 oz btl)

I'd have to say Carib, Guinness, Newcastle, Michelob AmberBock lol, and a bunch of microbrews.

 

Grew up in Golden Colorado, home of Coors. Smelled Beer everyday for 20 years. I just don't like beer anymore.

 

 

Allagash brews some decent treats.

If you are ever in SoCal, drop me a line. I like making them more than drinking them, so I have quite the stash built up (200+ bottles). I don’t do typical beers though..if I want a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, I will go out and buy one. So I tend to bit a bit more creative. You cant buy things like:

IBA: A cross between an IPA and a Stout. Its is basically a Stout hopped like an IPA. Flavored with a hint of rosemary and sage

An Imperial Stout aged on whiskey soaked oak chips…took 2nd place at the local homebrew competition.

A Dry Stout aged on vanilla and cocoa beans, spiced with cinnamon and coriander…..took 1st!

An IPA infused with lavender and wormwood…..a crowd favorite!

Pomegranate Mead, aging on fresh blueberries as we speak.

Screw the German Purity laws…again, I take big chances and get wild with my brews.
One of these days I am going to brew a garlic beer, but even I havent got the nerve yet. At least it would go good with pizza!

As far as traveling goes, if you are looking for just the beer experience, Belgium is the country. Oktoberfest is a bigger party, but lacks the refinement of Brugge, Ghent or Antwerp IMO. That said, Ive been to about 13 countries and have had a great time in them all, even if the beers were crappy…..hell, even the worst beers Ive had in Europe are still not as horrid as a domestic Miller/Sewers/Buttwiper.

Traveling > Beer

 

If you're going to do garlic, do it with some ginger. I'd be down to try that.
