So I got this email today about a gas out. Here's how the email goes:
> DONT PUMP GAS ON MAY 15th!!!!!
>
> In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted
> nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline
> prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
>
> Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
>
> If everyone that gets this does not pump on the
> 15th, it would take $2,200,000,000.00 (that's
> BILLION) out of the oil company's pockets for just
> one day, so please do not go to the gas station on
> May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle
> Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
>
> If you agree re-post this bulletin with "Don't pump
> gas on May 15th"
You guys think it might work?

Such a stupid idea can only be generated by the same idiots that tell you to boycott 3rd world countries...
Sure! Boycott gas for a day and cost them $2.2B. What happens the day after? Demand goes up by $2.2B! Supply can't keep up with demand, and what happens? The price goes up! History shows that the price of gas goes up MUCH faster than it drops, so even if you dropped prices a tiny bit, the astronomical raise the next day would totally offset it.
This is the most retarded thing I've ever seen in my life, led by people who obviously never opened a book in their lives.

This has a long history of never working and being pointless. Please read the Snopes article linked above.

I hate the idiots who started this junk... The internet is only a means for these dill holes to have a voice. It's just as bad as the 911 conspiracy myths. If only more people would read books and less MySpace blogs

And FYI, the majority of crude used by the USA comes from Mexico and Canada. We consume VERY little oil from the middle east. Europe is a different matter... Do the research if you doubt me.

This has been on here before - and locked by the boss.
This one gets locked by me...
When the last was locked by the boss, I got a PM asking why. This is the response I gave:
Your thread was locked by the owner of this site, not by any random Mod or SuperMod. Darren's the guy who pays the bills so you have the opportunity to post on this site. In locking, he already said WHY he locked the thread, and since this is a private site, he is well within his "rights" to do things like that.
I happen to agree that the chain (pyramid) letter that started the topic is (1) not going to change anything since the same amount of gasoline is going to be bought in May even if not one single soul buys it on the 15th. It would not make even a one cent difference in the oil companies' bottom line, and (2) this sort of topic inevitably degrades into a trainwreck of a thread, and it is much better and easier to stop it before folks get upset - which spills over onto the rest of the site.
Bottom line, though, is the person to ask or challenge is Darren. His site, his decision, and he locked the topic.

As soon as you step into a private site like this, you are in someone else's livingroom, not in a public space, and the owner - the person paying the bills - can set any rules they want and a poster can either agree or leave. No problem, but just trying to correct an all too common error of perception about the internet. Also note that if any site is not in the US, the rules can change drastically...)
Also, racial slurs are NOT acceptable on ScionLife. A word to the wise..

Why was this locked?? I feel this should be unlocked at least to see people's opinions. If not then I will consider removing my sponsorship from a site that does not promote freedom.
