Guns!
Yes, I'm in the South and, yes, we have guns. In another thread, we got a bit derailed talking about guns, so I thought I'd start up this thread.
1. What do you carry? (Type, caliber, extra mags, etc)
2. How do you carry? (IWB, OWB, ankle, purse, fanny pack, etc)
3. Why do you carry the weapon & way you do?
4. Have you ever had to use your weapon? (Legal stories only!!!)
5. For those of you who haven't used your weapon, what situations would or wouldn't you use it? (I'm talking about situations where you are probably justified, but it may or may not be a good idea)
- I carry a Ruger LCP (.380 Auto) with 6 rounds (including 1 in the chamber)
- I generally carry inside the waist band
- I live in FL where it's almost always shorts and t-shirt weather and anything bigger is hard to conceal. I believe 6 rounds is more than enough for any situation I should be acting upon.
- I've been in Iraq with the military, but never had to use my weapon in the U.S.
- I can't see using my weapon if I'm the focal point (ex - being personally robbed), but if I witnessed something as it happened (ex - kidnapping, store being robbed, etc)
I'm always curious about the last question. It's a tough question, but one everyone who carries a gun should be able to loosely answer before they ever walk out the door.

Almost the same as you! 1.) kel tec .380 or a .38 2.) in the pockect or in the car. 3.)kel tec is comfy in pocket. 4.)same as you, been to iraq but never used gun in U.S. 5.) i would use it in both situations!
1)1911 double stack ( 14 + 1) 45 acp ,2) Open carry ,3) 45 I got cause it stops BG's
4)Use it how ? 5) Used for SD
Would you mess with someone with a BIG SS 45 strapped to their hip? Just about says it all.

Thanks for responding guys.
@wozman: I likely wouldn't use my gun if I'm the focal point because I'm more confident in my ability to disarm an armed robber successfully (assuming he's up close) than my ability to draw and fire my weapon before he gets a shot off.
@frogbox: Regarding question 4, I'm referring to using your gun for something other than practice/fun. Drawing a weapon on an intruder (whether you fire or not) would constitute using it in my book. Obviously firing it at someone would be using it.

2) if you going to draw it , you had better be willing to use it
3) if/when you use it , be willing to have it taken (you won't get it back)
I worked for a range/gun dealership teaching/training shooters that count as fun? Gunsmithing is also something I do.Built my 45.
Haha, thanks but I'm not afraid to use my weapon. I just believe within arms length, a gun is more of a liability than a benefit. I'd take a knife in an up close fight over a gun.
Also, when I mentioned drawing your weapon, I totally agree you better be ready to use it, but if time in the desert taught me anything, it's that an aimed weapon can be effective and a lot less hassle than a fired one.

1. I carry a ruger SR9C (9mm, 17 round mag)
2. i keep mine in the car or the house, not much for advertising
3. I carry cause its my god given right as an American and further more a Veteran!
4. I have never used my weapon for self defense or anyone elses defense (yet)
5. I know my state's gun laws so the only time i would use it if i knew i was 150% justified. gun charges are serious and expensive. Its pretty easy to say that you would do something in a certain situation but as we all know, when something like that happens, the outcome can be very differrent.

1. M1911A1 Officer's ACP Model (frame by RIA, pretty much everything else custom) in .45ACP 180gr JHP. No extra mags, 1 in the pipe, 6 in the magazine, Condition One. OR a S&W 642 .38spec.
2. IWB or Pocket
3. why? I know that 99.9% of my life I won't need one. I just want to be ready for the 0.1% that I will.
4. Never used it, actually passed on drawing the one time I did and grabbed my Spyderco Delica 4 instead, situation diffused.
5. Only time to draw my firearm would be from immediate threat that I cannot evade with any other means, and I can draw safely.
...also Zombies. ____ing Zombies.
