Hawai'i 6.6 quake - no power many areas
Hawai'i has been hit by a STRONG quake on the big island's west coast.
Lots of damage, no power on 95% of island.
Quake centered just off shore near Kailua, between Kailua and Waimea?
A big chunk of one of the cliffs seems to have broken of and fallen into the water?
See CNN or MSNBC or whatever for details.
Since power is out, it will probably be a while before we can get word that all our folks there are OK.
Doubtful that any of the internet service is up...

Quake was at about 0707 AM local.
Currently there is a run on gas stations and grocery stores on the island.
Phone system appears to still be working, but under severe load.
Airliners NOT taking off from airport, but those in air are being allowed to land.
One of the hospitals is being evacuated because of damage.
Many buildings damaged, some roads damaged.
No tsunami expected.
Aftershocks continue to hit.
Many injuries - no reported deaths reported yet.
Some landslides.
Some bridges damaged.

(After spending 25 years as a 'phone company engineer and knowing the power plants intimately, yes, I know they can often keep running without commercial power, but earthquakes damage both equipment and CABLES, and there are often assorted outages because of that. Right now the biggest problem on the islands for the telcos is waaaaaayyyyy too much load from everyone trying to make calls. They are asking that people NOT use phones right now unless it is an emergency and help is needed.)
I just read this online. Actually came on here to start a thread on it lol.
Hopefully our fellow Scion owners in Hawaii can check in and let us know whats going on over there.
If you guys can get pics please do.
Stay safe.
