I am in the market for a new computer. I have been looking around but don't know what I should get. I know vista came out but what does it take to run it properly,. Also if I got an apple what does it take to run OSX properly?
If I got a mac I would like to get a mac pro
if I get a pc I would like something that can handle gaming. If I get a pc which company has a good rep?
but the question for both is I don't know which processor to get and how much hd space I should get or how much ram, what video card to get.

I have all macs, my home computer is a g5, like a turbocharged computer, very fast, and for the road i have a g4 powerbook. Couldn't be happier...biggest thing...No such thing as a virus for macs. Plus you can beat the every living crap out of it and it works like a charm. Just my two cents, and about what it takes for osx to run properly...Step one.. turn you computer on. Step two...wait, there is no step two

The current version of OS X is Tiger, the one before that was Panther, and before that was Jaguar.

Okay, since you mentioned mac pro and gaming, there's your answer. Get a mac pro and install XP via boot camp. Boot camp runs Windows on the Mac box with full harware support. That way, you can have the best of both worlds, a stable OS and a nice gaming rig.

You guys know you can dual boot (or quadruple boot) on Windows too right? And it will be much cheaper to get a Windows based computer and run OSX, Linux, etc. on it because Macs are overprices as hell. Look into Toshiba for laptops, they have good prices and they make great laptops.
If you already have a monitor (or LCD/DLP tv would suffice), keyboard, and mouse, then you get a MacMini for < $1000.
Not much for gaming, but it could be a great media center for you. Just another option for you to consider.

remember that if you decide to get vista with a mid-range computer and decide to update later, you cannot install vista on another motherboard (or something similar to that) I am not quite sure but you might want to check that out. I can get vista business for free... but I think it would be illegal for me to give it to you(I personally don't run vista because vista business doesn't have media center and I need that)
Mac.
What's your budget?
With any new Mac, you can run Windows or Linux - no PC can do that.
For Windows, you can run Boot Camp - you actually boot the Mac as a Windows PC.
Great for gaming, etc.
If you just need to use Windows for the occasional app, then Parallels rocks!
It will eventually support 3D, but not yet.
I have XP and XUbuntu Linux running on my Macs (yes, three Intel Macs - one Mac Pro, one MacBook Pro, and one Mini.)
If you get an iMac, MacPro, or MacBook Pro, put in 2GB RAM.
If you can afford a Mac Pro, get 4GB RAM.
You can get by with 1GB, but not very well.
If you're going to run Windows - XP or Vista - get 2GB for sure.

Toshiba laptops BLOW.
Yeah, they blow - know how I know? I have watched our vendor replace about 100 of them so far with logic board failures.
We're moving to HP.
As for Macs being expensive - do some research for LIKE Mac/PCs. It's not true.
Don't give advice on a topic you don't know enough about.
Someone's money is going to be spent, and it's best that advice be worth reading - even if it is "free"
I liked my dell it lasted forever, now i am going to get another dell, the only thing i don't like about dell is the support line.....the people are from another country and i can't understand them.
