how long did it take you to figure out what u wanted to do with your life.

Yea, 24 years and counting... Admittedly, I like my job at the moment, and I could make a career of it... even so...

 

ok so its normal to not know what u want to do by the time you get out of high school?

 

22 and counting. idk if people here have notice, but i change my mind quite often.

3 colleges and about 65k out in college loans and im in a school that i finally like.

thats after 4 major changed (chem ==> bio chem ==> undecided ==> now automotive, and i couldnt be happier)

im almost done with college and i still dont know what i wanna do

if i stuck with chem i would have been graduating this may, but i would have been miserable.

do what makes you feel like a kid again haha. the program im in now makes me feel awesome! its so easy to learn because i want to learn it. ims till gonna go to another school after this. i wanna open my own shop up after im done here

 

As far as I'm concerned it is. Does anyone really know what they want to do with their lives right after high school?

i went to the University of Rhode Island for 2 years (for chem), then i went to Bridgewater State College (in ma) for 1 semester (bio Chem) then back to URI for 1 semester for undecided, now im at New England Institue of Technology for automotive studies.

 

^ Dude, Z, it's totally normal to not know.

I went to 2 colleges and through 3 majors. DePaul & Columbia. Psych/Radio/Audio Engineering.

Now I work in IT and don't use my degree for anything more than a piece of paper for me to get job interviews and women

 

it really just depends on who you are, what you like, what you know, and what you can do.

me, i'm 22, i don't really know what i want to do. i'm about to graduate from college (fingers crossed), but i didn't pick my major because i love it. i picked it because i can do it, and it can pay for the stuff i do love, like a decent place to live, car parts, video games, anime etc.

my gf on the other hand is two years younger than i am and has known for years that her dream job is to be an interior designor, and has started her second semester of school studying that career.

so there you have it, some people know early in their life, some people don't.

my opinion, some people don't define their lives by what they dedicate their career to, they just have one as a way to pay for their means for what they are passionate about. just to pay for their hobbies.

college is def important, makes life easier after the fact. trust me if it wasnt i wouldnt be doin it now.i would be working full time somewhere making money

 

well i know one thing i have to do, which is take over my dads business (he builds custom homes) because i dont want all his hard work to go to waste, and i want to keep it in the family.
but do you think owning a business like that could be balanced out with being a mechanic or owning a shop?
or would it be smarter to just take over the business and run that full time.

sorry for the rambling too its just this is bugging the crap out of me and starting to worry me

 

go to school for business, that way in case (god forbid) something happens to the family business you have something to fall back on. and then your experiences in school might even help your dads business become more successful!

 

yup sure is normal, but remember the sooner you know what you want the better, you will not waste time that way.. But also keep your mind open, you never know someday you might need a change in your career.. do you planning wisely.

 

Idk, I used to want to be a Paleontologist, Then a Police Office, Then A **** Star, and Now, I am a pilot, but I want to take that all the way to a cargo airline.

I do work for a promotional company that does a ton of work with Scion, and not a day goes by that I've thought about doing that for the rest of my life. But I don't think I ever could.

There have been other things in my life I didn't know what the answer was until recently, But everything is different for everyone.

And changing majors in college is as easy as turning on your tC..... But like Dave said, if you cant decide by the time College rolls around, just go business, its a commonly accepted "IDK what to do major".

Why the sudden ponder of the "lifes purpose" question?

 

College is very important... at this point, the job market's kinda crappy. I know people with degrees that are having difficulty finding steady work, and they're certainly better off than someone with just a high school education.
