If I Were to Get a Swell Video Editor
What would it be?
I got a new wee little video camera. I think they call it a palmcorder or something. Anyhow, I have nothing to edit videos with (I did in the past as it came with my computer but I deleted it a few months ago as I *knew* I would never use it).
So, keeping in mind that things complicated like Photoshop makes me involuntarily wee myself in confusion, what video editor out there would be best for me?
Thanks for any help or suggestion!

Windows Movie Maker is the basic movie editor that comes with XP and Vista. As an expert in Windows deployment, you can not delete Movie Maker unless you manually removed the registry entries and files (a lot of work). You probably just deleted the start menu shortcut, copy and past this line in to your run command box (click start then click run, then paste this line in the blank box):
MovieMk.exe
or
"%ProgramFiles%\Movie Maker\MovieMk.exe"
One of those should work, if not, do a search (hidden/system files included) for "MovieMk.exe". Once you find the file, double click it to start it up.
Keep in mind, movie maker is very basic, but that's good and bad at the same time. It does 99% of what you'll need easily.
Good luck.

Hey Jenna. Do NOT buy Roxio's My DVD Studio 9. My son spent $50 of his own money to buy that program to use with his new MiniDV camcorder. It worked great for about 3 weeks. All of a sudden, when he tried to use it, and error message appears that says, "Your trial version has expired." He did not buy a trial version. We've tried everything and it will not work. It turns out this is a known issue with no real fix.

Contacting Roxio directly should resolve this issue. I have not used Roxio since version 7.5, the new version is too bloated for my tastes.

Nero has gotten too bloated as well.

I don't want my CD/DVD burning software to edit pictures, edit music, make file backups, and have mobile phone synchronization software included. Burning CD/DVD's, maybe some file format converting and a cover designer, but that's it.

Thanks you two!
Okay, I found the Movie Maker, thanks Dyltone! However, that wasn't want I had deleted before... it was something else. I did so because every time I hooked up my regular camera to my computer, this video editor would boot up and freeze up. And it was something that I did a "remove program", not just rid myself of the shortcut, silly, lol.
Oh, that program looks gloriously simple! I'll have to play around with it later. Of course, I might have to actually use the video camera first on something, lol.
Thanks again you guys, I was worried nobody would answer this thread! And happy birthday to you Dyltone!

That's sad that Roxio hasn't resolved the problem. I wish I knew a work around other than downloading a pirated version from the web...
Best of luck.
Enough circular talk here to be a political debate!
Anyway, as Jenna's question wasn't answered, and I'm in the same boat, do we have any suggestions? Movie Maker won't work with .MOV files (of course), and if it does work, I don't know how to get it to work, nor do I know how to get my camera to save in any of the other dozens of formats that movie maker would work with. Besides, I've been told by a buddy who is an MS guru and massive cheeleader that it's disgustingly horrible.
Here's what I need:
Something to chop down movies with, and possibly add those cool little black screens with the white text to introduce and set up videos. I'll spring for the $30 bucks for the Quicktime, if it'll do more than chop up videos, but I can't tell if it'll add effects and whatnot. I'm fairly convinced that for $30 bucks it should do more, and that simply trimming videos down should be a function of some freeware somehere, but I could be wrong.
Any ideas?

There's tons of options, it all just depends on how much you want to spend, what platform your working on and how technical you want to get. If you want basic movies windows movie maker/imovie should do just fine. If you want to do home movies or other types of movies and want to get some cool options with it there is a lot of different choices. I did a quick google search and found this 2007 video editing software report for the movie makers that are somewhere in between movie maker and big time editing software. http://www.video-editing-software-re...enreviews.com/. Out of that list the one's that i've heard about most are Premiere elements and Vegas Movie Studio but according to this report "Power Director" seems to be the best choice. It goes for about 80 bucks which is right around the same prices as most of the other ones on there.
On the other hand...it looks like quicktime pro 7 can do a lot of stuff too. I didn't see anything about any kind of effects available on apple's website but with all the other stuff it does i'm sure its got something.
I use a program called Final Cut Pro on my Mac. Its a lot more expensive than the stuff listed on that report but thats because its "professional" and I'm trying to make a living with it. Hopefull i'll be able to

I used to edit skate videos with Power Director 3 and really loved it. If you are looking to do good quality edits, adding music, transitions, and plenty of editing tricks for less than $100, I HIGHLY recommend Power Director. It's easy to use and has enough features to keep you from getting bored with video editing.
