if toyota built something like this...
I think the last gen mr-s would have sold better if it had a little more underneath the hood...
gm actually has a car worth talking/reading about...

and for the record, an MR-2 turbo would walk all over that car. Not too mention if the MR-S had the 2ZZ engine.
I'll give GM their props though, it is a sweet looking car, with a nice hp figure
Have any of you, who've posted above, actually read or seen anything about what the Solstice can do? It's quicker and handles better than the MX-5, cost less, and (IMHO) looks better than the Miata replacement. Grass Roots Motorsports just tested the Solstice agaiinst the new MX-5 and also against a nationally competitive, and well sorted Miata and the new GM won...even with the Miata's owner behind the wheel and at a track he knew. GM nailed this one. And there is an Enthusiast's package that deletes non-essentials like power seats and AC. And adds better suspension and brake components. This little ragtop has, and will continue to surprise even the most die hard anti-GM folks.
As for the MR2T "walk[ing] all over" this car: I don't know the numbers of the MR2T—I have driven one at an autoX and have seen many compete, and many lose to Miatas. I'd be surprised if a stock MR2T could beat the Solstice.
Now where is my flame suit again....

Secondly, the last MR-2 turbos built(1999), had 245hp, and weighed just over 1200kg....not to mention it's MR chassis layout...this car is one of the better rwd non-exotic sports cars/sports compacts ever built. The Solstice weighs about 100kgs more.
You are right, maybe 'walking all over' is too strong a term, but then again, we are comparing a car designed an built more than a decade ago to a 2005 car... That really is my point of contention.
If we could get a scion convertible (or hell even toyota) that looks like this....

weighs the same as the current MR-S (and handles like it too) and packs the 260ps version of the 3S-GTE(or comparable motor) then I for one have a car to drool over.
I cant ever see the Volta falling in this same segment...maybe a higher price bracket
Uhhh. An MR2 Turbo would waste a solstice any day of the week. It's known to be one of the best handing cars around, and before the 4th Gen Supra was released, beat out the 300ZX TT as far as acceleration in a comparison test. Hell of a lot cheaper too. That, and a lot of owners have done the Toyota Team Europe mod (look on mr2.org or .net, I forget which) that'll net an extra 40-ish hp for 5 minutes and a few dollars in parts.
