This is apparently a touchy issue in every neighborhood. I have neighbors on either side of me that are feuding over cat crap. One neighbor, who has never been anything but nice to me, has a house cat that gets out every once in a while. When he sneaks out, he occasionally does his business in other yards around his own.
The neighbor on the opposite side has a nice flowerbed in front of her house that the cat likes to use as a litterbox. She has vocalized her cat frustration at me on numerous occasions, but never took the time to speak directly to the owner. She has mentioned several times about putting out a bowl of antifreeze in the bushes so the cat will "disappear."
One evening, as I pulled into my driveway, she stopped me to inform me that she had "taken care" of the cat issue and had called the local animal control office and reported numerous stray cats in the neighborhood. Of course, there are no strays in our area, but the intention was to have the cat picked up and disposed of.
When my other neighbor (the cat owner) arrived home that evening, I told them they needed to find their cat and make sure he was safe and at home. I told them about the neighbor's issues and informed them of her actions against the cat problem. Luckily for them, the cat had been in the house during the day and had not been picked up. The cat owner decided to confront the other neighbor about the issue. The cat owner's complaint was that the neighbor with the issue had NEVER confronted the owner about the cat problem. The cat was not outside all the time, the owner never witnessed the cat's outside behavior, so the owner assumed there was not an issue.
Now, the two neighbors fight constantly. The cat owner has had their car egged a few times since, but has never caught anyone. Since they don't seem to have issues with anyone else, it is pretty safe to say it is my other neighbor.
The whole point to this is, you need to personally confront the neighbors about their dogs. You do not have to be argumentative or abrasive about it. Just mention that you have stepped in dog crap while walking through your yard and have witnessed their dog crapping in your yard on several occasions. Ask them politely to keep their dog from using your yard as a toilet. Politely explain to them your frustration with dealing with the dog crap in your yard. Let them know that it is not just their dog, but that you know their dog has contributed. Most dog owners know it is not fun to step in dog crap or to try mowing a yard that is full of dog crap. If they are reasonable adults, they will understand and try to keep the dog under control. Be neighborly about the situation. More than likely, the neighbors are going to at least try to keep their dog out of your yard. If they don't, then you move on with other actions, such as notifying the Homeowner's Assoc., bagging up the dog crap and placing it on the owner's doorstep (at first, try to resist the temptation to set the bag ablaze), shooting the dog with a pellet gun, etc..

I think you are very kind to only ask that they clean up the crap in your yard. There should be no crap in your yard to begin with. I would never think of letting my german shepherd take a dump on my neighbor's lawn.

Go knock on their door at a time that you know they will be home. If the problem does not resolve, call animal control to report every single time you see their dogs in your yard.

Poop Update. I pussed out and put a little note in their mailbox. At first nothing happened and I was kind of bummed, but 2 days later there is no poop at all. Interestingly someone elses dog was crapping on the other end of my lawn and thats gone too. I have not talked to them in person yet, but the problem seems to be solved. The letter was kind. I informed them that I only mow on the weekend and if they could just check in the later part of the week all would be well. I also acknowledged that I was not sure that it was their dog (although Im pretty damn sure) so I did not come across as a finger pointer. But, there is no more poo on my lawn, down from like 10 the other day, so all is well.

To anyone who reads this and owns a dog. People who do not own dogs like myself like dogs, but nothing makes us more mad than someone elses dog poo. Its disrespectful and just nasty. It makes all dog owners look bad. So, do the right thing and pick up the poo and all will be well. Plus as I said in my earlier post, dog poo is a civil tresspass and one could be held liable for any damage that results from breaching someone elses property rights, and the person may do something bad to your dog or call animal control.

Dude, you could have took one for the home team and 'slipped' on the poo, and hit your head on a strangely convenient rock!

But eh... you got what you wanted the gentleman's way, so all is good. I spent about 2 days worth of training with my dog when she was a puppy, and now she will only poop in one corner of my yard. Anyone can do it like that instead of ____ing off their neighbors.

This is easy... Do you have pepper? Normal pepper or Cracked pepper is fine. If you sprinkle it on your grass, they wont go near it once they get a wiff of it. I know its odd, but i have done this myself, and watched as the neighbor of a friend of minds DOG had a sneeze seizure... LOL.. It was one of the funniest thing i ever saw. Pro gardeners use it for thier plants so rabbits and other varmits dont eat their garden..

thats or put the poop on their respective FRONT porch...
