Default Is Karma real?

I contend it is not. Many times we have all seen jerks make way too much money, have tons of materialistic and they've back stabbed everyone they know to get there. Do they feel lonely at night? Do they contract some horrible disease?
Maybe, but so do so many others.
The widow of a soldier with 4 kids who will spend the rest of her life struggling on welfare and social security. What Karma has come to her?

and a big case in point:
The green river killer

no bad karma could befall this man that would "equal out" him murdering 50+ people.

to apply karma, it is like the law of physics "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" but peoples lives are a direct result of the choices they make barring any unfortunate circumstances.

to say karma is real is like saying that i can be mean to everybody i meet and assume that they deserve it.

the fact is that karma is like good and bad luck, to quote penn from penn and teller, luck is just probability taken personally.

Karma is real.

I met her at a Phish show.

I like that:
luck is just probability taken personally.

Q: is Karma real?

A: I hope it is, I fear it is not.

Depends on how you look at it. In religions such as buddhism where a person reincarnates, karma gets carried life after life, so even if a person doesn't get what he deserves in this lifetime because of limiting circumstances, he'll get it the next.

I am not sure about the Christian religion. But I think Karma is often used as the second line of defense against jerks if they corss the first - ethics.

No, I think the concept of karma in the west is "I sure hope he gets his because he's a jackass and the law didn't punish him"

It's more "wishful thinking"
I use it every day to keep (somewhat) sane.

The whole afterlife system of christianity, and most religions, is derived from the concept of Karma. That's why so many people want to believe in them because they believe in a god's karma.

Do good on earth = magic fun time afterlife
Bad on earth = sad time afterlife

And in fact, it only means that people have been talking about it since Christ walked the earth and likely before...
The Bible is a book - a compilation of human stories and ideas/ideologies.

it kinda is in the bible "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

there is actually some debate over the possibility of jesus journeying to the far east to take in some of their philosophies because christianity has alot of overlaps on some of the morals from religions that existed before it.

ofcourse, nothing in the bible can really be considered real because it was written thousands of years after it happened.

No I was just clearing up SSQ's uncertainty whether or not Christianity has any thoughts about Karma. I was just saying it's in the Bible just not called Karma. I am not saying whether it is real or not, sir.

It's a book folks.
It didn't drop from the sky.
A book, written by MANY people, and reinterpreted many times over the centuries.

And...?
Saying it's just a book doesn't diminish it's message.

What I DID say is it's not something magical or something that appeared to man as a gift from God.

Don't read too quickly...
