Default Laptop for CS/IT classes...

Looking for recommendations on laptops to purchase for use CS/IT related classes. Hoping to head back to school for Spring 2008 and want to have a PC ready.

Some have said get a tablet PC to take notes while others are saying geting a "normal" PC. The amount is quiet flexible from $700 to $2000 after looking around at the major companies (Apple, Toshiba, Dell, HP, Gateway).

For those of us in school or recently graduated, what do you recommend?

I would recommend the Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro. If you are going to school for CS/IT area of study... get a machine that will allow you the best flexibility to learn OS X, Win XP, & Vista. Also, you can install variants of Linux on there. The more you know the better your chances of landing a job once out of school.

HTH & Good-luck.

LIGHT AND SMALL, you will probably be taking it around everywhere for notes and coding.

Research some good laptops for linux (compatibility of major distros like fedora, ubuntu, gentoo, blah blah blah)
(Hint - Intel wireless cards seem to work well)

Apple is expensive, and I don't see many Mac OS users around...seeing that mac os is a fancy unix...(linux is a unix variant too)
