Default Linux & GPS?

OK, so I'm looking to buy a laptop (Acer Aspire One) for school. The major purpose of this laptop, is the fact that it's small enough to fit on my school desks. At school it'll be used for internet and word processing only. BUT I also want to be able to use it on the road as a GPS system. I do have the USB GPS Attachment, but will Linux support any GPS Programs? If so, which ones?

Thanks everyone for your help!
