So i'm sitting at a stop light at an intersection. I'm in the lane next to the left turn lane with a Camaro sitting next to me on the left. As we wait for the light to turn green cars start turning left across the intersection. A few go by and then an Explorer come bareling through trying to catch the arrow. At the apex of it's turn the front right wheel falls off and starts bouncing toward me and this Camaro. The Explorer, sparking hub and all slides off to the side of the road.
The bouncing wheel moving at what i estimated to be about 40-45mph is heading straight for us. Camaro guy and i look at each other and shrug because we both know it's gonna hit one of us as we had no way to move. Miraculously the wheel veers off to our left at the last second, hits the curb and lands in a perfect spiral on the grass next to a sign post. Then our light turned green and we went on our ways.

It was just such a shock and traffic kept moving so i went with it. It was a big intersection. The Exploder didn't crash but came to rest on the side of the road after he turned. He ground up the pavement pretty bad with his brake rotor. I went to return a movie and on the way back he was already gone along with the wheel. I never saw any cops or anything. It was only like ten minutes later and he disapeared like it never happened. It was not a situation where i could've stopped and checked to see if he was ok. I did not crap my pants because it was one of those movie moments that happens so fast that it seems like slow motion.

 

O man, pretty intense. I bet at the moment when both a you and the guy in the camaro saw that wheel coming, you two were thinking "O man, i hope it hits that other guys" j/k j/k. Good to hear your both ok.

 

if that wheel would of hit my car i would have went and got the dudes insurance info

Haha.. I just heard of this for the first time last night.

 

I'm glad my story is amusing. I had to laugh about it too.

 

There are two Exploders on the market. Ford makes one, and Microsoft makes the other.
