Default Need suggestions for a 9.9 sec future project..

I've been thinking a little bit of what I want to do after the tC is done and I am thinking of making something a lot faster.

1. I want it to be drivable so that I could enjoy it, not just a "street legal" branding that you would never drive it on the street.

2. I want to have the car be able to run 9.9 quarter mile with the same exact setup it has on the street. No slicks, no race gas, etc.

3. This isn't really a requirement but I am looking for something "fairly cheap." Of course I could buy a Veyron or an Enzo and make that even faster but that is way too much money for me.

I guess the main questions that I'm looking to get input from you guys and girls is what cars do you know of where this is even possible and how they have to be modded. I've seen with my own eyes an evo that looked pretty stock that run under ten and I guess supra would be a possible car. I'm thinking under 10 would be pretty impossible with a street setup and a FWD so I am mostly thinking it will be AWD or maybe even RWD as most fast quarter mile cars are.

And this is not something I plan on getting started until about 2 or 3 years so I am just looking to find what car I would want to build and see what my options are.

Thanks, JOE

hmm.. there seems to be kind of a bunch of skylines that have run under 10 with street tires..

and the other option to imports is obviously something like a 5.0 mustang.. oh well its a good thing that I don't have the money right now and can spend two or three years on google figuring this out..

Your best bet is a used C5 corvette. Everything's built to handle serious power, and it's extremely easy to upgrade. Slap on a supercharger, and you're good to go. Not too bad looking for the street as well.

Next best bet: 5.0 mustang. Looks like a hairy butt on the street, but super cheap to make fast. Other mustangs are good too, particularly the modular 4.6L.

It's going to be very tough to get 9's on street tires. If you can settle for 10's on street rubber, but 9's on drag slicks, then that's a lot more achieveable on a budget.

My advice is to stay away from imports on this one. Every "tooner" kid poops themselves over a 800hp Supra, yet if you go to a dragstrip, you'll see an 800hp domestic V8 just about every night they're open.

Here's one pretty much built for you. $39K gets you 648 whp.

get a 240 sx shell and drop a corvette engine in it. those things weight nothing and go like stink. saw one on pinks just kick the $h!t outta an old 5 liter supercharged mustang.

A friend of mine bought a fox body mustang for like 2600 bucks, and built the motors internals, huge snail, etc for another 6200? or something.

Like, fully built. Cam, everything. It sounds like an old muscle car. I almost shat myself because i've never seen an older mustang done up so much in person. He dyno'd at like 600hp on a conservative tune, he said the turbo and internals can handle 750.

It's also full interior minus the back seat and has a roll cage.

The car is fuggin insane.

I just couldn't imagine DD'ing it. The clutch was like trying to smoosh someones head between the peddle and floor, lol.

yea domestics are definitely the way to go which is why i guess you see so many of them. And I'm definitely not looking to daily drive this car so I really don't care how uncomfortable it is, but I do want it not just to be a trailer queen. I want to be able to take it out once in a while.

The 240 with the corvette engine sounds like fun although I guess that would be way more expensive than some of the other options. I mean I like the imports but they're just way too expensive to make really fast. Maybe I can do some sort of engine swap and have the best of both worlds.

Anyone else with suggestions? I know there's a bunch of info on google but I'm just curious to hear some personal opinions...

Thanks, JOE

theres a GSX at my school that runs just barely over 10s.
I'd go with an Evo or STi. Possibly an older one?

Fox body mustang. need i say more. Buick Regals are fairly light. the 240SX shell would be sick with a LS7 in it :-P

you can find a Miata and throw some V8 parts in it of you wanted. too. look up monster Miata somewhere

imports cost more to go fast. mostly because of front wheel drive and 2 or 4 cylinders missing :-P.

If cost, availability, and difficulty weren't an issue, I would say this is about perfect.

We had a red one that came to our autocrosses, with the LSx 6.0 V8 from the GTO in it... with lots of mods, including full headers / cams / headwork, etc.

The only way I can describe the car is VIOLENT. Sheer, unadulterated, violence. If Lucifer himself would drive a car, this would be it. I've had the luxury of driving a number of pure race cars, and thoroughly enjoyed them... but this thing scared the living **** out of me.

He probably put down 600+whp in a car that weighs 2800 lbs, although slightly heavier with the V8.

I think he was running 10-inch Hoosiers. He had them spaced, fenders rolled, etc.... but don't quote me, I'm not a FD transplant guru.

The thing that really impressed me was the power delivery. Just mountains of torque everywhere, and it just pulled like it was actively trying to suffocate you.

GTO/G8 or Mustang would be my top, though your easiest solution is to use a car made to handle a big block GM, Ford, or Mopar motor.

Just research; due to your power requirements, parts breakage will be a problem (on any car you choose) without some upgrades.

Im looking to pick up a cheapo Fox Body Mustang, just to make into an awesome driver. not really concerned about speed, but they can be made fast pretty inexpensively...

yea I'd rather stay away from the DSM's.. I have a couple friends who have 1st and 2nd gens and let's just say they're not the most reliable cars when you start tuning them...
