Default NEVER keep your car in neutral at a red light/stop sign!!

well today i was at an intersection (stevens creek and sareatoga for you san jose people) and i was about a car length behind a cavalier (i like to keep my distance)at a red light. well anyway, i had my car in 1st gear like i always do, and in my rear view, i see a black benz (S500) not stopping. it was a ****ing crazy asian lady texting on her phone (saw the phone held up to her face) well i let out the clutch and hit the gas and go left (we were in the left turning lane) and she SLAMS into the cavalier. i get out and see if the cavalier ownes was ok and he was then i go to the benz to make sure this crazy dumb _____ is ok, and when she is, i start handing it to her verbally. she understood NO engrish and was acting all crazy like it wasnt her fault. stupid _____ should have flown through the windshield IMO. anyway guys PLEASE make sure you keep your car in 1st gear while at a stop. you never know whats going to happen. /rant

Wow...that's messed up. It's good that you got out of the way.
Hmmm, Mercedes S500 causes the accident and hits a Chevy Cavalier. I smell a law suit. Did you give a witness statement to the cops?

While I can see how in this instance it was imperative you kept your car in 1st gear, clutch life will be drastically reduced if you do it regularly. The chances of this happening to somebody is very small, and I would rather take that risk to save the life of my clutch. However, I'm glad that everybody was okay.

Wow, thats scary... I usually bounce back and fourth, sometimes I leave my xB in neutral if I know its gonna be a rediculous light. If its gonna be a quick light, i leave it in first....

Auto FTW!

And I hate stupid drivers that cause accidents, then act like victims... Or suddenly forget their english.

u'd rather save the life or ur clutch rather then have ur car get hit from behind and roll into the middle of a busy intersection, possibly total ur car, or god forbid ur own life? lol..

Please read a little more closely, I was talking about the risk or chances of that happening. Slim to none. The percentage of drivers who leave the car in neutral outweigh those who leave it in first. 9/10 you won't be hit from behind. Yes it can happen, I'm glad both drivers were okay, but that's a chance most people are willing to take.

No kidding... It's a proven fact that right-handed people live longer than left-handed people, but you don't see them switching hands... ha ha!
