Credit cards rate and regs make as much sense as your cell phone bill.... They make the rules to best confuse you and hopefully get more of your money.

I was gonna lay out some pointers in how to get an 800+ credit score, but hell, I paid my dues to get there, only fair enough that others do too.

Plus it'll be so confusing and so convoluted that I probably won't be able to clearly and succinctly explain it anyway

Unless you can totally trust yourself to hold on to the money and pay down the cards gradually, you need to pay them now.
We recently refinanced our house in order to pay off over $50,000 in CC debt. It's amazing how fast that money can disappear before you get the cards paid. Then you are left with no cash, a new loan, and continued balances on the cards.
I paid off all of my cards at once. Now I have 2 that I use to buy one tank of gas on each month and I pay them off every month. That way I am keeping them active, but not carrying any balances. My high limit ($10,000) card in locked in a safe deposit box. That way it is out of my reach (so I don't order a supercharger), but can be accessed for emergencies.

That is the best thing you can do.... get a card with a fair sized limit and hide it...Then if something happens, you are not up a creek.
