Question For Seattledave
xdorkx, yeah, if dave/skeorx don't do it I will either today or tomorrow but I think scionofpcfl summed it up best.
No hostility from me. I respect what you are trying to do here. Talking logically to a christian is a rare commodity in my experience so thank you.

if by some stretch we give the bible credit for all those, fine.
those things actually happening aren't being disputed. But with science, real or christian, please explain
explain the great flood as explained in the bible.
days 4& 5 of creation(having all birds created before any and all animals to walk or crawl on the earth, i.e. cochroaches and dinosaurs)
or the 76 generations between the first man and jesus, which rules out all cro-magnum, homo-erectus or other primitive humanoids.

There are not still people who think god created the earth in 7 days are there? Just curious...
To expand: It is interesting that the bible is only right when interpreted to mean what is right by today's scientific standards. The bible says "day". But if we use the exact text it is wrong so theists say that a day is longer than an earth day. Well hell, he is creating the EARTH why would he say "day" and be referring to a different measure of time!?

I'd assume most all do as theyre told christians belive that.
unfortunately even christian folk who have to know better still just do as theyre told and believe it.

Does it matter if the earth was created in 7 literal days? Not really.
I know citizen/dave will criticize me for that, but just look at it from a creationist POV. IF God can create the billions of trillions of stars, galaxies, and everything else in the heavens, every different species of life on earth, and somehow managed to keep it all going, does it matter if he did it in 7 24 hour days? No. Saying that, I still don't think God would of rushed in creating the universe, its just so immense,
7th day adventists, i'm sure there is a church near you.
personally i don't care how "day" is interrupted by christians. It doesn't matter if it's 1 day, 1 year or a billion years, having pigeons created in any amount of time before cochroaches and stegosaurus, as the bible states, is flat out wrong.

The Andromeda nebula can be seen on a clear night. That nebula is 2,000,000 light years away from earth. Yet, we can see the light. So the universe is at least 2,000,000 years old.
Genesis 1:3-31 is not talking about the original creation of matter or of the heavenly bodies. It describes the preparation of the already existing earth for human habitation. This included creation of the basic kinds of vegetation, marine life, flying creatures, land animals, and the first humans. All of this is said to have been done within a period of six “days.” However, the Hebrew word translated “day” has a variety of meanings, including ‘a long time; the time covering an extraordinary event.’ (Old Testament Word Studies, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 1978, W. Wilson, p. 109) The term used allows for the thought that each “day” could have been thousands of years in length.

Krusty, you are wrong. Remember that "In the begining" line...?
You yourself said that it referred to the begining of time, now you are telling me that there was matter before that. I am confused about your interpretation...
Trust me man, I hate the Catholic Church every bit as you do. The Catholic church is evil, follows nothing the bible says, gets involved/starts EVERY war, and is the biggest hypocrasy the world has ever seen.
Please, I beg you, do not think that Im catholic or anything like what they believe.
Isaiah 40:22
There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth, the dwellers in which are as grasshoppers, the One who is stretching out the heavens just as a fine gauze, who spreads them out like a tent in which to dwell
BTW, Isaiah was written 742 years BC. Galileo was born over 2000 years after that. Greek philosopher Pythagoras theorized that since the moon and the sun are spherical, the earth must also be a sphere (that was around 540 BC). Aristotle agreed, he was born 384 BC. However, Isaiah was first.
And you know Im not saying that the earth is flat, merely pointing out that some "facts" are proven wrong.

The bible says "In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth"
It then goes onto say what God created on the earth. It dosent say how long the earth was there before he started the other days of creation.
I never said the creation of earth was the creation of time. Time has always existed.

look, egyptians knew the world was sphere thousands of years before europe accepted that it was.
Why do you seem to take a stance against science. Science is not made up for fun, it's not there to control people, and it's not made to disprove any religion. People stupidly take offense to it when their couple thousand year old book, is contradicted by today's science.
Knowledge increases, and because of that, we're going to get closer to a realization there is no god, because all the things you attribute to god, are just unknowns that are slowly being realised.
If we started shutting down libraries, and made sure no one looked into a telescope again, then I could see how we'd get closer to some god that way. But christians and like religions, have tried to carefully build this game that keeps their god from ever being seen or heard. If you tell me, someday "science" or "magic" will allow everyone with eyes to see god someday, ok say that. But you won't, and you can't, because then you wouldn't have your "faith". right?

I thought you told me that in a pm when I said something like this:
Time is infinite, there was an infinite amount of time before us and there will be an infinite amount of time after us. I don't think anybody disputes that. So that means god was chillin for eternity after eternity before he one day woke up and said "I think I'll create earth today". That makes no sense.

look the bible hasn't changed since the church went and changed it in the dark ages. If they decreed for hundreds of years the world was flat "just look, it's in the bible" then you are the one making the larger stretch.
I dont have anything against Science. I just don't like when I'm automatically a moron, for believing something that "science" dosen't agree with. All knowns were once unknowns (I dont know where Ive heard that before).
Why is it so hard for YOU to believe in a God? The Universe is just so unbelivably complex for it all to happen by chance. If the earth was just a little bit closer to the sun, we would fry, oceans would evaporate, earth would be like Mercury. If it was just a little farther away, we would freeze, water would be frozen.
Why do we have the sense of Taste? Why would we evolve a sense of taste? What about smell? Do we need to be able to smell different things? No. How could one cell, slowly evolve into everything from a ant to blue whales to Emperor Penguins to Elephants? Why do we dream? What purpose does that serve? Why is there so many different variations of life on earth? Why do we see in Color?
How can you believe that all these things just happened to be? There is just to many question for there not to be a Creator.
