Question For Seattledave
I'm not joking, there is no such thing as an atheist...
The declaration "There is no God" is an absolute statement. For an absolute statement to be true, I must have absolute knowledge.
Here is another absolute statement: "There is no gold in China."
What do I need to have for that statement to be true?
Only with Absolute knowledge of China can I make this statement for certainty.
I must know that there is no gold in China, I must know every the fillings of every china-mans teeth, , I must know every piece of jewelry, every rock and sediment in the ground, or the statement is incorrect. To say "There is no God," and to be correct in the statement, I must be omniscient (all knowing).
My point is, of course, to make the absolute statement "There is no God." I must have absolute knowledge that there isn't one.
Let's say that you know a whopping 1% of EVERYTHING there is to know in the univrese...Is it possible, that in the knowledge you haven't yet come across, there is ample evidence to prove that God does indeed exist?
Unless you know EVERYTHING there is to know about EVERYTHING, If you are reasonable, you will have to admit that, with the limited knowledge of eveyrthing that you have at the present, you BELIEVE there is no God, but you don't KNOW for sure...you're an agnostic, not an atheist.
I remember this all from a funny sermon I heard about 10 years ago, so if any of it sounds familiar, thats probably why. :-)

The way you and your preacher define an atheist is not how normal people define an atheist. An atheist simply holds the belief that there is no God. You cannot, under any circumstance, proove a negative for the reasons you state above. However, atheists are waiting for a positive proof of the existence to alter their beliefs. Therefore, there are atheists, and they are all over the place.

One can prove that there is Christianity just by going to a church, or looking in a phone book for CHRISTIAN Churches.
Regarding there being NO God? How do you figure? I don't KNOW God exists, based on a physical proof, but i have FAITH...that's the difference. While there may not be physical PROOF i can hand you and show you, I've got faith that he does. God is the builder, the earth is the building..... you're like a person who loks at a building and wonders if there is a builder, the EARTH is proof of Gods existence, creation is proof.
derr
the EARTH is proof of Gods existence, creation is proof.
Haha... you guys are awesome.
The reason I would look at a building and assume a "builder" is largely due to the already existing materials transforming to what is before me. Your "builder" argument assumes already existing materials which is theists number one argument when it comes to the big bang/evolution... DER!

Yeah... so the answer is no.

I must know that there is a God in the Universe, I must know every inch of the universe, I must have seen god with my own eyes or the statement is incorrect. To say "There is a God," and to be correct in the statement, I must be omniscient (all knowing).

Actually, I saw Ray Comfort give that sermon about 10 years ago at my old church in corona, he's the guy who wrote it, i memorized most of it and used it in a speach class (with his permission) a few years later.... i've recited it in person as well,
