With the sales Ford was having this month, I went to look at trading in my '05 Crown Vic for a F-150, no frills model. Not that I like the truck... I just need one. The Ford dealer told me to use KBB as a trade-in estimate, so I pulled it up there on my laptop and the trade-in price was $6300-$9700. I figured Ford would give me mid-range, since the Vic is one of their own models. The salesman told me they'd give me $5200 for an '05 Crown Vic, perfect condition, leather and all power options, with a moonroof, and perfect maintenance records, with only 30,000 miles. I damn near punched the dude in the *****. Just for giggles, I pulled up a kbb report for the truck I was looking at, with 5,000 miles on it. It was worth less than my car!
To shorten the story, I didn't buy the truck. I'll keep renting one when I need one, and drive the Vic until I'm old and gray. Makes no sense trying to get rid of a Ford. Better to save up for a year, and just outright buy either a Tacoma, or the Suzuki Equator if it ends up not being problematic.
GM, Ford, Chrysler are all dead to me. I never had to bail out Toyota or Honda.

Oops!...
This reminds me that a few years back, when I used to work for Infiniti, a customer needed an engine for their QX4, so we ordered a junkyard engine. Turns out when the tech installed it, it had a Nissan engine cover on it. The tech didn't notice the cover but as some of you know, it's the same damn 3.5 liter engine, used in Infiniti and Nissans for years.
Anyways, the customer inspected the work and saw the Nissan engine cover and flipped out!
They thought they were getting an inferior Nissan engine...

yeah, i mean, it isn't like "hey, my scion has a toyota emblem on the engine!" because scions aren't an upscale luxury brand, and i'm sure toyota does a good job making sure that there is nary a single toyota emblem on any part of any lexus vehicle they sell. but i mean, volvo is entry level luxury, and they don't have any vehicle that starts are more than $38k, aston martin's sell for 6 figures. for that kinda money i don't want freaking volvo emblems hidden under my key fob, or anywhere else for that matter.
it is $h!t like this that is why every car brand that was owned by ford and GM have been run into the ground. you can't let a crack team of accountants who take public transportation to save money build and design your cars. sigh...even as i type this hateful post, there is a banner ad for the ford flex right above the text box...

Reliability is one thing, but unless you want to spend high dollar, American cars nowadays are ugly. They scream, 'You paid for economy, you got economy.' That stupid Ford Flex ad above my text box doesn't mention the almost $50k price tag as equipped.
