Default Road Trip!

Well, time's up for me here in Arizona and it's time to move back to New Jersey. However, I'm still uncertain as to which route I should travel back. It's going to be at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept so bad weather is basically pointless to consider (and by that I mean snow ). On the drive out to AZ I came down thru Indianapolis to St. Louis to Amarillo to Alberquerque to Flagstaff. I'd really like to go thru Denver and over to Chicago and head along the northern side of the country, however there's big gaps in between and multiple paths.

My other option is to head south, either up to Flagstaff, over to Alberqueque, Amarillo, Dallas, Memphis then up the east coast (which I've done about 10 times (NJ to FL)).

Anyone got any recommendations of which way to go, things to see etc etc?

Oh and I'll be driving a rental truck, tC won't be getting any more miles on this trip .

Decided to make 3 mock routes, center one is the one I came down already so I know I don't want to go that way again.

Hmm, i've always liked dallas myself, i'd go the southern route myself...but that's just me....looks fun either way. Plus, i'm pretty sure southern girls are better looking than the snow-birds up in the midwest. ;-)

Driving by yourself?

No, I'm driving back with my Dad. I want to go both routes but the south one has sorta a weird time table if we go that way, it seems to be too spread out for stops that appeal to me (Dallas, Memphis, DC) compared to the north (Denver, Chi, Cle, Pitt). Still uncertain as to which way and I've still got some time before it needs to be in stone.

I vote for the southern route. I have driven most (just shy of all, as I have not been to NY city) of the three routes east of Chicago and Nashville. The southern route is the most scenic and ejoyable to drive. Plus, you can always cover Clev, Pitt, Chicago from your new home area. I am just outside Detroit, and we hit Cleveland, Pitt, Chicago, Cinci, Indy, etc for weekend trips.

Whichever you choose, have fun and be safe. I strobgly recommend a GPS nav unit for finding gas stations and hotels along the way. Plus, you can stop and see some very good baseball games (major and minor leagues).

Have fun!!

the ones up north have teeth and dont sound like they have issues, however i'd say id stick to a coast, but i married a WI girl

personally ive done the 2 northern drives to chicago and the middle route is much faster. then u also want to say on I-80 through PA to get to ny.
last i knew, PA was a non reporting state, so if u get a speeding ticket, insurance will not know. ohio cops however r out like mad men.
and if ur leaving from phnx. u dont have to go to flagstaff, there r some state roads that r much faster/more direct.

Time isn't much of an issue so I'm most likely going to take some scenic routes and hit up as many bigger cities as possible.

We're quite the road trip people ourselves. We've made many trips back and forth between Washington and Wisconsin, we even drove to Tennessee this time last summer.

My recommendation is to stick with the middle route that you've already been on. Only because of the rental truck and that not being the most fun to drive, the extra miles and gas the other two routes will subject you too. Also, if you've only been on that middle route once, it'll still be interesting.

The southern route looks shorter than the northern route (do you have mileage for all three?) although the southern route looks more interesting.

BTW, I don't see how the northern route, running in the middle of America is going to produce uglier woman then those southern ones, lol.

Southern route FTW, Take either of the northern routes and you will be bashing your head against the wheel. Mid-W sucks to drive through. A lot. A whole lot.

North route is 2,759, middle is 2,464, and southern is 2,824. So taking an alternative route isn't too much out of the way

I'd go south. The women are much better looking, less attitude, and love to have a great time.

Plus the places you have selected to check out are much more fun and the trip itself is a much more scenic route.
