Rough Saturday morning for you too?
I was on my way to work this morning in the Spyder and was thinking, "What a beautiful morning! Blue skies, 70 degrees and not a thing to worry about. But you see, in Tucson we have this problem with small wildlife, especially birds and rabbits. So I was driving along and all of a sudden two quail decide to fly accross the road just as my car is coming along at a mere 50mph. Typically you run over quail since they aren't known to fly, but these pesky birds decided to fly at about a foot off the ground. Anyway, I tagged the first one and hit the second dead on. I felt bad and looked in my rear view mirror waiting to see it fall to its immenent death. However, as I looked for it, it was not seen. I pulled over and sure enough, it took out the center section of my grille, cracking the wonderful black plastic section. To make things worse, it was now stuck in my bumper.
I had to rush to work for out Saturday morning meeting and went back to the car afterwords to see if I could fix the grille. When I returned, I was able to fix the grille (can't tell anything happened), but the poor bird is still stuck in there. So when I have a chance today I'm going to remove the grille and hopefully set free this confused quail. I have a feeling though that when I see it I will have wished that I simply ran over it to put it out of its mysery.
Thanks for reading, and post how your Saturday morning was good or bad.
Other than the poor bird, my morning is going great, I just hope it doesn't get too dang hot in good ol' T-Town.

Get this, it's not only alive, it...
So I just went back out to the car and unscrewed the center section of the grille and popped it out. I then took the screwdriver and tapped around the bumper to find it and take out the carcass. Sure enough though, I scared the thing and it flew out of the grille and off into the wild. It looked a little beat up, but it flew away with ease. The grille must have softened the impact quite a bit. If it would've hit any other part of the car, it would've been dead. I'll bet having a mid-engine helped too, keeping the temp in the front of the car down to outside temps.
That is one lucky quail! Now I just have to replace the center section of my grille (about 4inX5in section). Not so bad for a halfway decent story.

i hit an opossum, and the thing flew forward and smashed into a construction barrel (the big orange reflective ones) and then bounced back into the roadway.
wasnt pretty.
