Default SL "search engine" ...LOL!

Moderates always tell us to "SEARCH" , well I would if it freakin worked!!!!
I had to search via Google to find something on SL, now you can't tell me that's absolutely ridiculous...

I use it and think it works great.

I dont think people really understand how to use the search here. Heres a tip:

Try quotes around multi word phrases. Example: if you want to know something about transmission fluid, type:

"transmission fluid"

instead of:

transmission fluid

otherwise you will get back results for ANY occurance of the word fluid (includes brake fluid, pwr steer fluid, etc.) and ANY occurance of the word transmission.

Also, you might want to try:

"tranny fluid"
"trans fluid"

dont forget that there are quite a few spelling errors on almost every thread ( "break fluid ), so the search is only as good as the info it searches.

Additionally, there might be a million threads (what type of motor oil should I use) since people dont understand (or dont care) that by making numerous threads about the same question, it makes the search feature much less useful.

Yup... 9/10 times I can find exactly what I'm looking for.

I will say that the search bar up top isn't very good, but if you click the red search button, you'll get what you need.

really you don't have to do searchs half the time, just read the thread topics on the first and second page, and you'll most always find the answer.

usually the complaint comes from people who will post later these topics today, tomorrow and next week:

"OMG CHECK OUT THE NISSAN CUBE"

"HAS ANYONE SEEN WHAT THE 2008 xB's LOOK LIKE"

or the always classic
"NEWS FROM LAST MONTH/YEAR, BROUGHT TO YOU TODAY"

Search works pretty good for me. I think part of that is due to how much time I've spent on SL. If I'm lookin' for an old thread I usually have a pretty good idea of what to search for be it the title, topic, and/or who posted in that particular thread.

Persistance pays off too.

I think it works just as well as any other message board's search. Sometimes it's easy to find what you need, sometimes it's not.

I know better than to ask how to reset my odometer thing. However, it took me a good while to find a thread that talked about how long you hold it and if each bar meant 1k or not. But I kept looking and looking and looking because I certainly didn't want to get the repost police on my case, lol. I wish I could of just made a post and asked... even though I have all day to spend looking for my answer, I just didn't want to spend my day that way, lol.

Sometimes when someone asks a question that they may or may not have used SEARCH for, it would be nice if they were either told where to look or given the answer.

I for one don't want to or have the time to SEARCH through the 532 topics that cover whatever I happen to be looking for.

An answer, quick an simple is all that I and many other's ask. Thanks.

Great!!! So now when I search for "tranny fluid", this thread is gonna pop up on the list of links... yep, fourth one down...... it’s getting harder and harder to find nasty pics these days……

I noticed on the “search” tab, there are 2 radio button options, “Search topic title and message text” and “Search message text only”. Where’s the “Search topic title only” option???

I like it, never had problems digging up what I need. As said b4 narrow your search by using " " and if you get a ton of results, its because there is a ton of info on the small subject
