Nice purchase!

I'd recommend this lens to any Nikon user. Cheap and very sharp:

It's known to be one of Nikkor's best lens for the price. It takes great, clear and sharp pictures.

The kit lens you have with the camera is an ok lens, but you will notice once you get more into photography, you're going to have a hard time taking good indoor pictures without using long exposures.

It all depends on what you want to use your camera for. You'll take great pictures with the 18-55 lens, but once you really get the hang of the camera, the 50 mm 1.8 will allow you to grow more without really going to expensive lens.

Looks good!

Now just keeping snapping as many pics as you can.

When I started learning how to use my D80, I would snap a couple pics in Auto mode, then go to Manual and mess with the settings. That way, I at least knew I would get a somewhat good pic with Auto, but learning at the same time how to improve the shot.

^^^^ thats a good thing. I was an ameatur photographer for a few yrs and one of the most important thing i ever learned was never to go for a cheap lens, especially after watching "how its made" good choice on cameras too!!!!
