Default So we bought a Wii....have a question

My wife was out this morning and got us a wii system as a "family gift". I will be connecting it to my Sony XBR series LCD TV and I was wondering what connection the wii uses. I know it's not 1080p like the PS3 or the Xbox 360, but does it still use an HDMI cable, or is it component, S-video...whatever? Thanks in advance.

It comes composite out of the box (or at least mine did), you would have to buy the component cable seperately. It does not use HDMI. The max you can output is 480p

Hope that helps

That helps a lot...thanks. If it's only 480p, does the component cable make a difference? I want the best picture I can squeeze out of it but I don't want to spend $20 (or whatever it is) on a different cable if it doesn't make a noticeable difference.

The picture would be much clearer. I cant really remember how much of a difference there was since i got the component cable about a day after i bought the wii

I just did a quick check on amazon and it looks like the Wii component cable is less than $10 so I'm going to order one. Thanks for the info. The system looks like fun. I guess it came with the basic sports games and she bought EA Sports Playground and the Wii fit disc and platform thing. I'm looking forward to messing around with it.

I'll have to check out that game. My son has a 360 in his room but the Wii will be in the living room for all of us to play around with.

you need the component cable to switch the settings from 480i to 480p, and i believe to also allow you to use 16:9.
