What if wider wheels in the back meant more grip in the rear and more weight to keep rear tires on the ground. Rear wheels usually have problems gripping on turns. Either way rear wheels on a FWD car still holds a purpose. Hmm...small width equals lighter weight so in theory the front wheels will be able to spin easier on a staggered set up. hahaha I kid.
