Default SWM looking for Scion loving SWF... not what you think!

Yeah so my GF is killin me with the Scion hating. everytime I do something to the car she freaks out and asks why I just waisted however much that particular mod cost me. At the same time she spends about $500 a month to keep her 1993 Volvo 240 running and on the road. Who's wasting the money here? Is it bad that I like my car more than my GF? I'm about to give her the launch. Maybe I have issues...

...Anybody else have this problem? Just a getting out a little rant while Im bored at the dealership not selling Scions. I love slow days....

lol thats funny how long have you 2 been together? if you have no tied strings between one another move on and find someone who shares the same interest instead of hearing the b*thcing all the time.

I understand, Joe. I was lucky in that my wife was a bit of a car nut and understood most of the 'necessary upgrades' to them.

If she didn't understand a particular choice I made, she accepted it, just as I did with hers. A good deal of money was put into her Mustang and her CRX, for example, to upgrade both looks and performance to her satisfaction.

It really does help to share, or at least understand, interests - it lets each person treat the other more as a "real person."

Good hunting!

LOL starwars stuff... haha you must be that slow!

uhmm good luck with your GF. I dunno. I'm never good at giving or taking advice but if you care about her, don't let the car issues get in the way. Try to deal with it cuz, yes! you have a great car but if you have a good relationship then there's room for both. On the other hand, if she just flat out irritates you then yeah, that won't get better and the car issues will only make things worse. Good luck

she drives a volvo. honestly, what did you expect out of a woman that drives a volvo? I'm thinking she isn't wild and crazy. she's more responsible, and analytical. she thinks you are wasting your money. if it makes you happy to modify your car then she should understand. it makes her happy to balance her checkbook, and you accept that right.

here are your options as i see it
1. Lose her and get a new GF that fits your more carefree nature.
2. Get your GF to get a newer car(something customizable) so that she better understands why you do what you do.
3. Let her pick out something for your car using your money(put a money cap on it) and have her instal/help you install the item.

She doesn't sound all bad, just a little too responsible for you. she probably doesn't remember the fun frivolity can be. show her.

Yeah we've been together for over 6 years. This isnt the first car Ive modified since we've been together but its certainly becoming the most time consuming and expensive one. She always complains cause I have a need for the best of everything. She whined when I bought my $600 surround sound system, my big a$$ TV, and a couple other things Ive aquired. She doesnt work and she's a starving college student so she has no idea what its like to work for a living and have bills and a crazy schedule. I play with my car because its relaxing and gives me something to be proud of. She really is kind of analytical. Im definately carefree. I walked into the audio shop today just looking and walked out with a pair of 12" Alpine TypeS subs....

...I figure she'll either chill out eventually or I'll just stumble upon a new winner. Hey, SEMA is this weekend. The shopping should be pretty good there to meet a new lady.

Talk about getting a civic with every part apc makes put on it and then show her an example (you can bring her to KY there's plenty to choose from) and then she'll appreciate you wanting only the best for your car lol.

Don't ever stop putting only the best on your car, I'm the same way, it's the only way to go.

6 years! Crazy!

As far as her whining about you modding your car....I can't help ya there, man. Maybe it bothers her that you're not spending more money on her...?

Buy her something nice and shiny, that should keep her happy for a while.

wow 6 years is a bit of time together. But she really needs to get over it. You should have your own thing while she has hers. Tell her if shes trying to change you it wont work, you have a passion for cars or whatever. You could start picking at something she likes to do just to get back at her to show her just how annoying it can be to have someone nagging. but seriously your still young and if you deep down dont see the relationship going anywhere just move on. Save you both the grief later on.
