Default Things to do in the midwest?

Ok, I REALLY need a vacation, but I live near chicago, and want to get as far from it as posible. I am looking for a place to go that wont cost me an arm and a leg(not the Dells, PLEASE) and is within 300 miles of chicago.

Does anybody know a place to go for 3-4 days?

I don't know how far it is from Chicago but I went to Carbondale a couple of years ago and it was fun. Giant City State Park was great if you are into camping or hiking. There is also Galena. I can't add much more than that.

You might have more luck if you post this in the "regional" section.

- Cow tip

- eat various sorts of fatty meats stuffed into pig intestine

- drink beer

- pick up overweight plain looking chicks.

- head over to university of wisconsin for drunk and loose women who may or may not fit the above description (number on party school several years in a row, whooo!)

- get on a Southwest Airlines flight to Vegas.

Um, I don't know. We've been to WI many times for family and other than the Mall of America, there really isn't crap to do out there. Maybe go up to Canada?

Why not Dells? I go there once a year. It's a quick, fun, and inexpensive getaway...

Get a bunch of people together and go camping at the Huzzah Valley. It's just south of St. Louis. If you're a drinker, reserve a spot in "the zoo" and make sure you go floating one of the days. Good times... it's a sight to be seen.

I was thinking starved rock too, thats cheap...

The reason I don't like the dells is that I have been there eleventy-billion times, it gets old after a while. And now that is my own money, not a family vacation, its not so fun anymore.

I have found out that there isnt anything really to do around here, corn, fatchicks, and more corn, not to forget the fat chicks again.

The trip will consist of about 3-4 married couples, so something both the halves can enjoy, so college parties are out of the question.

It gets better, you can buy a new 4 bedroom with about 2200 sq ft for 150-200k in a good area too.

you could always head up to the northwoods or door county.. but unfortunately you'd be following a ton of IL cars all with the same intentions... I'd actually suggest heading to those places ( or a drive along the Mississippi ) during fall. Less "tourist traffic", and the colors can be amazing.

You can only find those prices if your out in the middle of the sticks.

I was thinking more in Ohio and Minnisota. Anything within a 1.5 hour commute to Chicago is going to be in that range you spoke of at a minimum. But I could have been wrong. It's still loads cheaper than Washington.

You are officially the first person I've ever seen recommending to go to Carbondale and do something besides drink.
