I just found out that I knew one of the victims of the shooting. His name was Jamie Bishop, a professor at VA Tech. His family and mine went to the same church when I lived in GA. I remember having a crush on him....only, at the time, he was in high school and I was barely in junior high, and he was 6'+ and I barely reached 5' tall, lol. We were in a couple of church plays together, I remember him playing Noah from Noah's Ark, lol! He and my older sister were in a few math competitions in school together, he was a very smart guy. It's a strange feeling, I haven't seen or heard from him or his family in years. I didn't even know he taught at VA Tech. I had to find out about him thru my best friend in GA. I can't say that Jamie and I were ever really close, the age difference was a pretty big barrier. But he was my friend and my sister's friend and he was a great, soft-spoken, smart, nice guy. My prayers go out to his family. Just thought I'd share what little info I know about him. He was more than just a name and a face...more than just a victim. As were all the others......

Care to back that up with an explanation?
BTW, that's one of the things that makes the US so great...you're free to leave anytime you want.

I didn't read this whole thread so I don't know if it was mentioned...
Is anyone else disgusted when you are listening or watching a fairly reputable news report on this (npr in my case) and when they find out the killer was (in this instance) south korean they send a reporter to korea town to get their reactions and in addition contact south korean leaders? As if they aren't just as devastated as the rest of us.
I also hate it when anyone calls anyone the n word the press runs to sharpton or jackson for their opinion, but that is a little different.

They came back with instances of similar disasters in Europe. Half of which were from war eras duh

It happens also in other parts of the world, obviously unstable people are everywhere, but not to the extent and frequency that happens here

But anyway let's leave it at that

The reporter is probably going to Korea town because all Asian people share a telepathic link that allows us to work and think as a single collective organism to subsume the rest of mankind.
YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

Nutjobs are the same all over the world. They just go nuts in different ways in different places. From what I've seen on CNN, the shooter didn't talk to anyone in the 4 years he was at VA tech, had no friends, and never had anyone visit him (not even his parents ?!)- just a very very strange, isolated, socially atrophied person.

The truth is, school shootings happen everywhere, NOT just in the U.S. Those RECENT shootings overseas were examples. If you are going to make a statement be prepared to back it up.

I don't think it's published as much when it happens in other countries. If we think for two seconds that these shootings only happen in America on the regular then WOW. I just think that other countries keep their business under wraps. Also, we don't live in these other countries so how do we really know. Who knows if there a shooting in Finland, Sweden, Austrailia, Mid East?? I realize some of us go to other countries maybe even live there, but do we really know what's going on over there as we sit here in our home. Shoot some of America doesn't even realize what's going on in America.

How man people watch it though, and if that particular country doesn't air their dirty laundry. I just fail to believe that this doesn't happen in other countries, maybe not as often but I think it does more often than we think.

that was the key to what I wrote it DOES happen of course it does, America is not the pit of the world's criminals.....

it's a saying just like americans say "french people eat stinky cheese" that's a stereotype comment because of course not every french person eats stinky cheese. Well same way the rest of the world gives typical "stamps" (sp?) to the US
