Default We Need to Ban Gasoline!!!

That’s it! I’m sick of this. I’ve lost track of how many people have been killed by Gasoline in the past year. It seems like at least once a week I read a news headline about some wingnut throwing gas on an ex-wife, girlfriend, homeless person, husband or coworker and then setting them on fire! There have been reports of people using gas to burn down entire apartment buildings (out of anger toward someone living there) and killing many innocent people inside. People have even made BOMBS quite easily from gasoline.
Now here’s the troubling part: Did you know that almost anyone can buy gasoline! I know that's hard to believe but I’m serious. There are almost no restrictions on this deadly weapon. You don’t need any type of permit and there is no waiting period. Hell, they don’t even do a background check! What type of country are we living in when anyone can obtain such a lethal weapon so easily? I say we either ban gasoline altogether, or we at least impose much stricter gas control laws.

One thing at a time. I'm going after kitchen knives and baseball bats next.

Haha... very funny
Gasoline functionality = transportation
kitchen knives functionality = cooking
baseball bats functionality = playing baseball
guns functionality = killing

Seems odd that people get in an uproar when a product works as intended.

Ya missed a few. Skeet shooting, Trap shooting, target shooting, personal/home defense, hunting & recreation.
Besides, with technology the way it is, we really don't need gasoline anymore. Sure, it had it's place back when our country was new and growing. But now we have plug-in electric cars and hydrogen fuel-cell cars. Gas engines are bad for the environment.
Gas has become an easily aquired, deadly weapon with the potential of doing damage on a massive scale.

I'd like to see you say that to the faces of the families of the students killed in virginia. I'm not going to argue this but killing is wrong, cooking and playing baseball are not.

Right, And there is nothing wrong with driving or mowing your yard. But when you use the gas to kill, it's wrong. See my point?

So you think that if the VT shooter did not off himself and stood trial instead and was found guilty, that killing him would be wrong.

Is that correct?

This is my last post because this topic has been discussed. You all know from the other thread that I am perfectly aware a ban on guns is not the answer. That said...

A comment like the one above is EXTREMELY incensitive considering this county's current climate as a result of the recent massacre. Leave it alone.

Do something productive like tuning into the hearing concerning attorney general Gonzalez.

Umm, it was YOU who put VT into this discussion.

If anyone is insensitive and unaware of how to keep subjects seperate, it is you.

And just what would that accomplish???? No one is gonna call me up and ask what I think they should do with Roberto.....

BTW, it's inSensitive....a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
So is a sense of humor.

I think part of the problem is that you are confusing "Intended Purpose" with "Functionality". Let me rewrite part of your chart to make my point:

Kitchen Knives -
Intended Purpose = cooking
Functionality = cutting (what you cut is up to you)

Baseball Bats -
Intended Purpose = playing baseball
Functionality = Hitting things (what you hit is up to you)

Whatever the intended purpose of a gun may be, it's functionality is shooting. What you choose to shoot is up to you.

Any of those items can be used for something innocent, or they can be used to kill. It's not up to the item. It's up to the person using it.

When guns were most available and virtually unregulated - when you could buy them without question the way you could buy a lawn mower, when you could buy them through the mail or from catalogs - there was less violent crime not more.

Sociologists say you cant prove a variable with a constant. The constants in American history are guns and teenagers. The variable is the crime rate. As guns have become more and more difficult to acquire and in some places actually banned, the crime rate has gone up. Obviously the causative factor is not guns.

Additionally, you have a constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. The language of the Second Amendment is quite clear. It states, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It doesnt state the right of the states or the right of militias. It states the right of the people. It shows that the reading comprehension of millions of Americans is in desperate need of an improvement.

The belief that an inanimate object can cause animate objects to change drastically their behavior is a silly superstition. Furthermore, it is flat stupid to propose laws that only the law-abiding will obey as a crime-fighting measure.
