Default What would you buy?

So i'm looking for a few suggestions from everybody. I love my box but lately i've been feeling the need for speed. If you guys had about 7500 to spend on a car what would you get? I'd prefer to get rear wheel drive and I definately don't want a civic/integra. A bike is out of the question because I'd be that guy weaving in and out of traffic doing 140 mph. So let me know what you guys can think up. Thanks,

Late 80's to 90's mustang. Cheap and plentiful, with parts out the wazoo. Or Camero if the bow tie is your thing.

As much as I'd love to have a snarling big block, I'm leaning more towards road course racing.

Then Miata, porsche 914, 1st gen rx7, 280z, or 1st gen MR2. I'd lean towards the mid-engine choices myself.

I would do the 240 except that everyone and their mom has one right now. I think there are 7 sr's just on my base alone. The mr2 I know for a fact they weren't made for someone that's six-four. Although the Impala is a good idea.

yes, thanks to the drifting craze, 240's are back in the biggest way. it's retarded if you ask me, all thes kids with crappy cars they got just to drift. but i live in rainy seattle where you'd never catch me in a rear wheeler as an everyday driver.

i'm 6'4" myself, and you're not going to find anything comfortable decent rear wheel japanese for 7500 that you aren't going to have fix all the time.

My buddy at work just bought an '89 Supra, single turbo, for $3500. It's in perfect condition. I rode in it the other night and it's pretty nice.

I stand by my second post. The 914 and Mr2 have t-tops, just stick your head out. Who ever said racing was convenient? Mid-engine rear drivers have an extreme advantage in road course racing, namely unparalleled balance. I'd add a Triumph TR-7 (I think that's what it is, but it'll fit a chevy 350 in a package not too much bigger than than the 914) and a Fiero to that list. Yeah the Fiero is junk, but you just want the platform and uber light body. You can drop whatever suspension, tranny, brakes, or motor you want in it.

I'm sad to say but that's where I first started drifting because it was always wet out. My dad took a 83 Volvo 242 w/manual in on trade and the rest is history. My box is the first fwd I've ever had. It's pretty fun for what we have here in Florida, but if i ever took it on Alki Beach Road I'd definately end up in the sound. Maybe that's what I can do. Find a 240 and drop a 5.0 in it.

You want cheap speed, you can't do better than a bike. If you're not mature enough to control yourself on a bike on public roads, what makes a car any better? You'll just be carrying 3500+lbs of force instead of 600 when you're being stupid on the streets.

Of course, you could buy a great condition, few year old sports bike for about $3,000 put about $1,000 into it to make it completely track-ready, another $1,000 in leather gear and armor, and the other $3,000 could be put towards track days on the bike, they're anywhere from $100-$300 a day depending on whether you're in a group for a discount, certain track, yada yada.

Then again, you could buy a fun autocross car, something along the lines of an older 240sx, older VW rabbit, and even though you said no, an older civic (89 or any 4th gen) - don't get me started how much fun and cheap it is to get an older Miata going into autocross - and whatever you buy, dump a few grand into wheels, tires, suspension and maybe a grandfather'd engine swap (look it up if you're into it) and you'd have a fun car you could drive into the ground. Plus an autocross only costs between $25-$40 depending on membership, organizaion, or your area, etc. www.myautoevents.com is a good place to start.

If you didn't catch my nuance, keep the hot-headedness to the track. Once you race full-out on a track, everything else pales in comparison. Taking an onramp or off-ramp too quick or slamming through the twisties on a bike on the street can never come close to track racing, and it makes you an overall more conservative driver because of it. Speaking from experience here.

I don't know, there's too many options out there. All my friends feel that my getting a faster vehicle would be a bad idea. It's not my fault I learned how to drive on the autobahn.

It's just hard because the closest thing we have to a track is an empty parking lot with some cones at wal-mart and an 1/8th mile drag 30 miles away.

The really smart thing to do would be to take said 7500$ and upgrade my house.
