Default Who and why do people buy aftermarket alarm?

I'm taking a business class and I'm trying to determine who (customer demographic) and why people buy aftermarket alarm.

Thanks.

Kinda tough to research. I'm not sure where to start. It's pretty hard to find the exact data. I think I can only find the answer by examining other non-relating stats.

i have been and know victims of the vehicle theft and vandalism and for the most part if the vehicle had an alarm the crime wouldn't have happened.

I don't really live in a high vehicle-theft area... but I bought the OEM alarm with my tC for two reasons. Mostly for piece of mind. If someone really wants to steal it, they'll steal it - alarm or not. But I like knowing that it would fend off a few people if they were to try.

Also I get a small discount on my insurance.

The feeling of there ish being protected.

You don't want to get into your car and your ish is missing!

Or worse. You hop into your whip and there's a dude in the back holding you at gunpoint!

Alarms could somewhat keep these things from happening

Haha

I bought one cause...

- It had the remote start included

- I live in a high theft area

- It has hood and trunk sensors unlike the factory alarm

- It has it's own battery in case they disconnect the one for the car.

- It has a GPS system in the car in case the car is stolen... It can still be located.

Mostly, it is for security. But, seeing as I live with guys who have 4 of the nicest Hondas on the block, I gotta worry about those first. Scions aren't that popular with thieves just yet... Thank goodness. Can't ever be too safe. =]

Why? You're kidding right? That's like asking "Why do people drink water".

People buy alarms because they don't want their ____ stolen, and they buy them AFTER-market because dealers will charge $500-$700 for an alarm you can get INSTALLED for $100-$250.
