This is why I DONT own a Domestic!
I don't want to start a debate but 3 bedroom houses in detroit are going for 35k. It may only be a matter of time before the rest of us feel the hurt from the failing american auto industry. And as for the stock tc beating a stock mustang...??? You're kidding right?
Problem is that it's hard to determine what "american" is anymore. Lots of Fords are built in Mexico, Japanese and Koreans are building cars here in the US, and only the germans are still "mostly german".
Even if you buy a Ford truck that's built in the US and they actually make money out of it, they'll just use it to invest in mexico, while Hyundai takes their profit and invest in the US.

Do not let idiotic posters on internet forums sway your taste in anything, especially cars! Buy the car you want because YOU like it. Don't worry about others.
I happily park my daily-driven xB in the garage right next to a "Domestic." I own both of them because I like both of them.
Is my "Domestic" faster than your import? ...More than likely.
Is there an import out there that runs faster times than my "Domestic?" Definitely.
Should anyone else really give a rat's @$$ about either one? No.

but i mean come on a V6 still runs mid 15s is not as fast as these kids make it seem.. and for the price of a stock mustang you can have a supercharged tc which will beat it..
and as for feeling the hurt, we benefit overall not because the american car companies are failing but because it is free market. Cheaper and better cars are being produced from foreign companies. Who cares? We pay less for a car now and get more features and better quality. The jobs that we are going to lose will be filled by those working on imports and by import dealers, etc... Plus companies like toyota are starting to make factories here which would get more jobs...
It might be terrible for a few people, it might be great for others, but on average everyone will benefit...
this is not the first time in history that things have been replaced. Just look at the railroad. It is hardly in use. Did the country crash and go under?? Nope, we made planes and better cars. More jobs, more money. Free market... The railroad workers lost jobs, but gained other means of cheaper travel and their jobs were replaced by other jobs...
I mean I am trying to run a business on this website but if I go under I am not going to blame it on anyone. My success or failure rests on my prices and what I am able to supply, and my decisions on how to manage resource, costs, and time...

I have been a proud Chevy owner for years, but would NOT recommend any of their new vehicles to anyone. The same goes for Ford and Mopar. I currently own an '06 Cobalt as well as my xB and Camaro. I have had nothing but problems with the Cobalt since the day I bought it. Every other owner I have talked to has had the exact same, or at least similar issues as those that I have experienced. The car is near 25,000 miles now and will not see 30,000 in my possession.

and the idea that the few hundred thousand american auto workers are going to find half as high paying jobs or benefits for their family working at the very few foreign dealerships as mechanics is ignorant. yes they were over paid, and generally i'm against the ideas of unions, but in some cases it's needed.
I drive a Nissan 350z (the tC before that) so don't think I am a "Domestic" kind of guy. But I would like to see you tell all of that to the 14% of people unemployed and 1/3 in poverty in detroit. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070319/...ime_detroit_dc
My point is not "Everyone go buy American cars", it is research what you say before you lead people who might support our economy by buying one away from it. Ignorant comments like the tc can beat the mustang or all fords are pos' will hurt us in the long run. I drove a 96 thunderbird as my first car and I sold it with 96000 miles and the only repair I ever needed was a new alternator for 400 bucks. I bought it with 60,000.

Dave,
When America started to see imported cars as at threat we did exactly that. We threw higher import costs at them and it simply resulted in them building the cars here in America. Kind of shot ourselves in the foot.

Ok, who was the dumb@ss that raced a 390 hp S/C mustang in the first place. I'm really getting tired of Import owners who feel the need to prove something then they get thier @sses waxed. Don't get me wrong, if you got it the let 'em have it. Where I live I see alot of Civics with a body kit, a CAI, and a Fart Pipe that try to race anything that gets near it. It's like short man sydrome.
I will nevr buy an american car.
We have had 2 american cars in my close family...and both were POS. The dodge caravan needed 11, and no thats not a typo...11 head gaskets. We paid for 3 the dealer paid for the other 8 (although they tried to push it on us every single time. We literally had to fight for all 8 to be paid for)
to put it simply, in my family, immediate and extended, and friends, american cars have been absolutely unreliable and a money sinkhole. They look cheap, are made cheap, etc.
While ford is firing their employees, toyota is building new plants in the USA, hiring new ones.
Go foreign.

Don't get me wrong, the unions did serve their purposes in the past, but over the past few decades, they have done nothing but grow long in the tooth and become detrimental to the livelihood of the industry they claim to assist.
Perhaps if the unions had considered their overall effect on the future of the industry as a whole rather than their own personal gains, things may have been different.
Contrary to the common views of the public, foreign auto industries are not to blame for the downfall of the American automobile industry. The workers' unions would have bled these manufacturers dry eventually anyway, leading to the same conclusion that the manufacturers are facing now. The existence of the foreign auto industries just aided in accelerating the inevitable.
Until someone steps in and allows the American automobile industry to re-vamp itself from the inside out, streamlining production and balancing overhead with profits on a much wiser scale, they are doomed to failure.
I like how the new Mustangs look, but its ridiculous to think you're superior just because you drive one.
I mean, if you owned a Pagani Zonda, and beat a tC, would it really be logical to say "zomg lolz I beat that rize kid lolz"? Hell no!
Of course a V8 is going to have more powern than a I4 made primarily for a good comprimise between fuel efficiency and oomph. If Toyota wanted our tCs to be fast, they would've made it a STi-killer. But it's not that!
Flawed logic annoys me to no end..
Besides, they're muscle cars. Muscle cars have their place (I've always had a thing for them), but they just can't be compared to smaller, more maneuverable cars. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
Any monkey can go fast in a straight line. Throw some twisties into the mix, then throw a Mustang and tC onto the asphalt. Does this prove either vehicle is superior? No, it just proves they exist in two different worlds.... especially when you own a Mustang with a live rear axle. It's obvious it was never meant to go around corners in stock form (or even certain modified forms... the tragedy that is a GT500, for example).
Twisties, turns, and corners just aren't in the American culture lol.

Although the fact I had to work with 2 girls who insisted on doing the work with the engine in the car didn't help either...
lol im a mustang fan but hate most mustang drivers they allways act like there so fast..someone needs to post the #'s on the mustang like the one i want a 1991 v8 5.0 that made around 200-250 hp lol...more of a joke i raced a new mustang in my wifes 2001 5.9 4x4 dodge truck and beat it..most of them on that site dont understand that power to wieght plays a huge role and that honda and other import (i said honda) has the most powerfull engines for diplacment/power to weight...ive never seen a domestic car with a 1.6 make 160 hp noir have i seen them make a 1.8 with 200 stock most of them are charged ...like if ya pay attention to the comercial with the new ford were they had it go up against a accord and camry wich are fwd car's and the ford was awd makes no sense ...did the stang fans not remember what hapened with the subaru and the cobra??i dont hate american cars i just hate the ignoirence...i love seeing 92-95 civic hatch with a gsr motor smoke the $h!t out of american cars and wonder how it does it on on the same amount of power..
