OK this is for any of u Nikonians. This is what the inside of a D3 looks like and the inside of a 14-24mm lens. Now u see why lenses are sooo heavy ha ha. Look at all that glass.

question for you camera gurus.

Im torn between evalualtive metering and center weighted average metering.

In your opinion which one do you find the most accurate? from testings Ive done, evuative seems to be more prone to over exposing a shot in the background while center weighted average seems to underexpose. But Im seeing that center weighted average seems to be more accurate on the light meter outdoors.

what have you guys been using?

so this is what I plan on doing.
using pattern mode ie. evaluative metering for most of my shots, but when im outside with bright skies, Ill use center weighted average.

anyone with tips on the way of metering?

thats a bummer.

On a side notw, I picked up the ef-s 18-55 is f3.5

I got to play around with it last night for the first time here are my thoughts.
first few shots last night with and without flash left me regretting the lens purchase.

I looked at them on the computer screen and there was noise and edge softness all over the place, and this was iso numbers from 200-650

I thought maybe if I take it outside when there's natural sunlight and I got the same results.

I was bummed soft noisy borders everywhere, I than was going to write it off as my fun lens and never use it for anything I'd take seriously. I always view my pics 100% to see the quality of the lens. This ones soft, noisy, and suffers from some noticeable chromatic aberrations in a lot of areas.

This is my first ef-s lens on the camera and I usually shoot in medium sized raw to save space as from past experiences with my current lenses the medium and large size raws were comparable in quality when shrunk down.

I gave the lens one more try and switched my camera over to full size raw and lo and behold the sharpness improved dramatically. WTH? Im wondering if this has to do with the fact that its an ef-s lens?

anywho sharpness is now acceptable, much better than before (older results yielded something akin to a cheap point and shoot when viewed close up) Now that I have it set to large raw the pictures look like it was from an slr.

so here's my input
pros- excellent contrast, excellent color saturations, 18mm on a 1.6 cropped sensor is wide enough to have some fun with peerspective, acceptable sharpness

downside- plastic mount, acceptable sharpness, slow aperture(this lens is actually less sensitive at f3.5 than my other ef lenses at f3.5,

conclusion? it's an average lens at a cheap price. Performance-wise its a bit lacking, but its to be expected for a lens normally packaged with the xsi and xti as kit lenses. Inexpensive route to wide angle opportunities. Don't expect too much from the photos on line, they're too small to see the flaws in the picture quality and this lens is way over hyped by too many user reviews. Im a bit bummed out but it's a bit early to toss this lens in the crap pile, hopefully Ill learn to work with its limitations and possibly enjoy this lens as I use it more.
