I've heard good things about Lightroom, but I have yet to try it. I use CS4 and occasionally Photomatix for when I'm doing HDR.

I hate using polarizers.

not sure how good quantaray ray is, I know their lenses are pretty bad.

tiffen, B+W, and Hoya seem to be the popular brands for filters.

photoshop is photoshop, you seem to be interchanging the term photoshop with "general software that edits images"

there are various updates of the photoshop software with cs4 being the most recent and the only version compatible with canons mark II Raw format.

light room is photoshop on a diet that was designed with photographers in mind to speed up workflow.

photoshop and lightroom are both industry standard photo editing software.
photoshop however is a significantly more advanced software to learn vs lightroom.

however all those 3rd party software for noise reduction, HDR and other effects can all be done in PS, as long as you are thoroughly familiar with the software, the benefit of having other software aside from photoshop is just the ease of use to get the job done.

Thoes are multiple fixed images. Layer them together in PS and fade each layer.

what do you mean you cant do the same?

anyhow if you want to multiply the same object with no transparency, this is extremely basic PS.
just dont use opacity.

just layers and masking.
