d40x is a D40 with the same sensor as the D80. in other words 10mp instead of 6mp but higher priced to boot. which, in the SLR world you will come to learn, megapixels do not matter like they do with p&s. there are a couple other minor differences as well, all which will not matter to you at the beginning stages of getting into photography. a d40 will take just as nice of pictures as the d40x and at a cheaper price. had i have known this back when i started, i would have gotten the d40 instead of the d40x. i basically wasted $150 but have learned my lesson since then.

the best deals that i know are reputable i have been able to find are from ADORAMA.COM. i have actually referred 3 different people there all buying d40 packages they sell... all are very happy with their experience.

i cant even tell what the package comes with. Does it come with camera + accessories? $375 seems a bit cheap.

the $375 is a refurb. i actually wouldn't expect nikon to refurb anything that isn't back to brand new shape before selling but who knows. the brand new packages on adorama are only $450. best deal on probably the best entry level digital SLR you can purchase. i would go as far as to say it is the best deal out there... what you get for what you pay.

same as mine, seller bought it early this year (with BB reciept for $500+). everything that came in the box, Nikon D40 body, 18-55mm kit lense, 512mb card, all software, cables and neck strap still in wrappers. the body and lense had zero signs of usage or any wear and tear at all, it could pass for brand spanking new! lense and lcd screen was crisp and clear.

im tempted to spend my income tax return already on a D90 or Enkei RPF1s. So far i think im leaning towards the rims.

I got my D40x for a present from my uncle who has lent me his camera before so I guess he thought that higher MPs was better or something. I don't really mind since I shoot in RAW and it's nicer to have larger resolution shots to play with. I love the D80 but sometimes I'm way faster with my D40 since it's the camera i learned on
