All of my good pictures are raw, and I don't have anything that can convert them without watermarks (my iMac converts automatically when pulled out of iPhoto), so I can't upload anything now.

 

 

Finally got some good time at a legit studio! post more when im done with PP.

why do you say there is no point to the d40x. I thought having the extra 4mp is worth it.

 

If you plan on doing large prints, then yes the extra megapixels will come in handy.

 

Well here is what I want to do. I'm a noob who wants to take nice photos, so ive been thinking about getting a good SLR. I'm also not looking to print anything huge. I have been looking on ebay for a good d40x, but i'm up for suggestions on a good starter camera. The only thing i dont want to is find myself with a beginner camera and say "crap should of gone with a d40x", or say something like these photo quality sucks. I basically want to take the quality of photos i have been seeing in this thread. So if you can suggest a good setup let me know. thanks.

 

d40 is a good beginner camera. but the extra 4mp is not worth an extra 100-200-300$ more for the d40x as opposed to the d40.

I was on the same boat with u thinking If I got the d40 I would be like "____ I wish I woulda bought this one or that one" but I read so many reviews and took peoples opinions/advuice on here that I ended up with the d40. great beginner camera with time to grow, but even reviews online spoke wonders of it how it competed with top notch camera out there.

I personally recommend the d40 kit for a beginner camera. u can find it for under 500$ and it still has a great resale value when and if u wanna upgrade.

 

My first camera was a D40. If I had to do it over again, I would probably have started with a D70(s) so you will be able to autofocus with AF lenses. Plus the D70 is larger and has a top mount LCD as well as a front command dial. Had I started with a D70 I probably wouldn't have found the need to buy my D90 and would be ready to purchase my 2nd body instead of my 3rd.
