DSLR Owners Unite! (56k? Are you kidding me?)
You can AE lock on the iPhone right from the camera. Usually what I do. But with the good quality and all the great apps, it really doesn't make sense to carry around a DSLR all of the time. Of course a phone could never ever replace a DSLR, but for quick shots that require no zoom - the iPhone 5 works very well.
The iPhone5 is a great phone. I love mine. But what I've learned about the phone's camera is, yes it looks good on the screen. Put it on a computer screen, and big let down! I even typically use Camera+ which gives you further control over the camera. It comes in handy for quick little things like a picture for craigslist ad, or something at a store/mall. But for anything else, my Nikon goes with me.
And I live in a large city area as well. Was ranked 1 one in cities with most violent crimes and deaths from them. But I still feel OK with my camera. Most people just look at me funny, but never have had someone reach for it. I think in the daylight they see my mono pod as a good weapon against them. Because at full collapse it looks like a police baton. lol

I don't mean to make Atlanta seem like it's rampant with crime, but the places I'd like to explore are usually located in rundown industrial areas. For example there's an abandoned train yard I'd like to go to, and although owned by Georgia Power and being fenced off, squatters still go there. Walking through most of the city is fine because of the amount of people and traffic.
Love that car, Jon. Pretty clean shot.
I've seen a staggering amount of modified cars here, but I haven't had a chance to shoot them. Got a few of that STi up above, but I was too focused on how dumb I looked taking pictures of the car in public like that to get more than any decent shots.

I don't usually worry about my car since I don't keep anything valuable in it. Plus they'd have a hard time stealing it with the immobilizer.
Which macro lens?
You (basically just the fact that you have a D800) reminded me of this photographer dude I met at the zoo a few days ago. Gnarly-looking French guy, rocking a D800 and a 24-120 f/4. Told me about how he was traveling the world for a year, hitting up Russia, Indonesia, China, India, Japan, some Pacific Islands, Africa, and South America. Just he and his camera equipment. Jealous.

@ethan its a really old 55m f2.8 no af or aperture control luckily the d800 can meter and knows what aperture im at. as old as that thing was for $80 it rocks!!!
had never used a macro lens before let alone a fully manual one so its proving to be a learning experience. hope to get some cooler shots up soon when i get some down time.

Sick deal. $80 for a lens is awesome, especially when it produces images like that.

I've spent more money on coffee and amazing food within the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 3 years. The quality of food in the little cafes and restaurants here is far superior to what I've had in the States. Comes with a slightly larger price tag, though.

I just feel better eating stuff out of glass rather than plastic. Plastics are filled with all sorts of fun chemicals that do all sorts of fun stuff to you.
That empanada looks awesome. Want one so bad.

Where you guys go???
Bought a bike a few days ago and learned that the guy that sold it to me has a ridiculous collection of bikes that he restores and keeps for his own pleasure. Had an opportunity to shoot a few of them today. There are a ton of shots on my flickr; here are a few of my favorites.

I haven't been shooting much, but I did go on a Google+ photowalk yesterday. I didn't take many since I'm in the area a lot, but I did get to see the city from 17 stories up which was a perk.

The state capitol, city hall, Underground Atlanta, and Turner Field all visible in this shot.

You can see the tracks being laid for the our new street car in this shot. Atlanta used to have a whole system from 1800s until the 1950s and they removed it like geniuses.

I always dig your urban shots, Jon. Simple and clean.
For those of you that use LR, which one do you use? Is it worth the $80 (or whatever it is now) to upgrade from LR3 to Lr4/5?
