if you're thinkin of dealing with the Border service, don't bother, they only know what the RIV tells them. The two steps listed earlier were the key to him getting that 08 in:
-Called RIV asked to double check to see if the vehical was admissible.. at first it wasn't then I told them the manufacture date of March of 07, then they said it was good to go..
-make sure you get the name of the person you talked to!!*** and have them create a record for you, and take down the exact spelling of you name.

the riv guy said he cant make a record but he took down my name...?

and also he mention that its best if i get a letter from the manufacturer saying its comply with canadian regulation...

y'know, I don't think that letter is necessary. I didn't need one when I brought my 06 across, all they wanted at the border was the "no recall" Letter. I wouldn't even sweat that.
Though Scion is acting on pressure from Toyota about the border crossing is kind of a dick thing to do.

did you try bringing it across the border with the RIV's backing?

any models made before sept 2007 is all admissible...

i had no problems going in the boarder this time, i dont think they even check if its admissible or not... the lady just kept writing and stamping and took like 5 min

5 mins? Fack, my 06 took 30mins to get processed!

The Federal inspection should take about 3 mins. All they do is check the DRL's and the gauges.

it varies from province to province. I had to get an "Out Of Province" inspection done, which was 100$ and you're somewhat at their mercy because they can claim to find anything wrong and charge you for parts, labour to get it passed inspection. I took mine to Toyota and they said the sway bar was damaged, even though the XB handled great. So another 100$ tacked on and I got it passed and registered. However mine does have a salvage title, so it could have been legit, but I'm still suspicious.

That sucks! that you have a salvage title. Did you ever look at carfax.com on your vin number to see your box had any previous accidents?

oh I know it's been in an accident, it was mentioned when I bought it on ebay. Plus the title was a dead giveaway.
it took some front end damage but it looks like it was mostly body damage. The frame is straight and it doesn't pull to either side when driving or braking and Scion parts were used to fix it up, so I got a decent deal out of it. The only thing I had to fix was the sway bar as per the inspection, which may or may not have been worth fixing, but like I said, i was at Toyota's mercy for the inspection.
