2011 Scion tC Alpine Touch Screen Install
I had a fairly new Alpine Touch Screen Navigation System from my previous car that I decided to put in my new Scion.
It's fairly easy to install an aftermarket stereo.
1. Remove the plastic bezel covering the factory stereo. You just have to pull it off carefully and slowly starting from the bottom left corner.
2. Remove the screws securing the factory stereo to the car. 4 of them
3. Pull out factory stereo and unplug the wire harnesses attached to it.
I was not able to find a dask kit and wire harness made for the 2011 scion, but the kit from an 2010 Scion xB will work. Wire your new stereo to tBhe harness and plug in to the factory harness. Make sure you attach the Blue wire from your harness to the factory harness blue wire. If you do not, then the 2 6.5 in subs in the front door will not play. The blue wire is to turn on the amp that powers those speakers.
4. There are 2 metal brackets that are attached to the factory stereo that you need to attach to your new stereo to have it bolt insecurely.
Bolt on the 2 metal brackets and the screw on the 2 plastic side brackets from the dash kit. I had to chop off the end pieces from the brackets I bought. Test fit for proper position.
I used a Axcess ASWC kit to retain the steering wheel control. Refer to their instructions on which wires to use. You can message me too and i'll let you know also.

Make sure the red and black wire from the ASWC are connected to the red and black wire of your head unit. The scion tc uses a 20 pin connector for its stock steering wheel control. Match the green/orange from the aswc to wire 7 on the 20 pin connector. I can't remember the color, but the connector numbers the wires, you have to look closely. Next match the black/green from the aswc to wire 8 on the 20 pin connector. Lastly connect also the ground (black) wire from the aswc to wire 6 of the 20 pin connector. Wire 6 is the connectors ground.

Hmm strange. It worked for me this first time on auto detect. Ensure all connections are solid and try again. Its suppose to flash 5 times for JVC. Otherwise try their manual programming. My apline navigation doesn't require the speed sensor wire. The wire is located on the cars computer. Its on the drivers side under the hood. Try googling to see if anyone has detailed the wires on the cars computer. You may also want to search under Toyota Avensis. That's the over seas name for the TC

Getting things setup to do an install of a new head unit on my 2011 tC, knowing which wire harness to pick up would be helpful.

When I was at the dealership buying the car, I sat in the 2010 XB and saw that it came with the same Pioneer radio that the 2011 TC did. So I assumed that the same dash kit would work for the 2011 TC.

Toyota has not changed their harness for years

The Scion TC 11 has 4 harnesses at the back. The 2 larger harnesses will plug into the harness adapter from the link I showed you. The other 2 are for usb/aux and Steering wheel control.
For the steering wheel control I recommend this one
http://www.axxessinterface.com/steer...ntrol_new.aspx
It works automatically without any configuration.
The USB/AUX is rendered useless when you install a new head unit.
TIP: There is a blue wire that you must connect from your new head unit to the blue wire of the scion harness. This is the turn on for the factor amp to run the bottom subs in the front door.

Awesome, thanks for the help. One of the 'workarounds' folks have been trying (I may, depending on the aftermarket unit) is taking one of the rear USB inputs and chopping off the input, splicing it to the OEM connection, which lets you use the factory setup.
Although, it is totally not needed.
