In general, Sparks and Scion-Warehouse/Toyota Mall have the lowest prices on TRD accessories and carry the full lineup. When shopping for my B-pillar appliques Scion-Warehouse had them for $54. The next closest price was $60 something with a similar shipping charge. Now these aren't available in Canada so if you want them shipping and duty are a must. I bought them along with the door sills so consolidating on shipping always helps.

In researching springs, the Scion dealer I know gave me their "best" price of $242. You can buy them from multiple sources in the US for $200...plus shipping and duty of course. If you want it now you have to pay!

Mr. Scion Canada and myself both worked our butts off behind the scenes to insure that all Canadian prices were as competitive as possible with the US pricing as well as aftermarket. As tuners ourselves, we know all about the issues of cross boarder shopping and the usual US/Canada pricing differences. In this, we addressed that head on as best we could.

If you check with your dealers on uninstalled prices, I hope you are pleasantly surprised at what you find! If there is ever a concern, your more than welcome to PM Scion Canada here and let your be voice heard!

Colin, I can fully understand your comments about having to wait for the US to get them first and then have them shipped to Canada. I also fully understand the bi-lingual issue and the extra delay that it causes. However, I have to strongly disagree with you on the "additional testing". If the product is approved for the US climate, with extremes from the 100+ degree temps in the desert to the -20 degree temps of Montanna and N Dakota it can surely survive in Canada!

My concerns are the same for TRD parts as for Dell computers as for many other products and the only way to address them is to voice them. The Canadian divisions of multi-national companies need to protect their market and their existence... may I remind you of the big talk several years ago over warranty coverage on US cars brought to Canada to discourage cross-border purchases. This issue has now been nixed by many companies openly admitting to "North America" wide warranty coverage. Why, because some companies and dealerships realized that if they didn't cover them people would buy other brands of cars and/or not service their cars at their dealerships!

At the end of the day the dollar is king and it always boils down to what the consumer wants and how you get them to buy it from you instead of the other guy!

I'm fully onside with what you're trying to do and I will be the first to admit that saving anything less than $50 is not worth the troubles of cross-border shopping.

I've been tuning for 16 years and know the market, the players and the "rules". The main point I want to make is that Scion Canada should offer all the parts and accessories that are available in the US at competitive prices. Stock the most common ones and special order the odd-*****. I'm sure people would be willing to wait 1 week for a special order item...if they could order it!

Cheers!

Unfortunately this is not the case. We have a few products (not Scion related) that we cannot offer in Canada because of extreme climates. As weird as it sounds, having your exhaust freeze over to the point your truck doesn't start is an actual issue in some areas.

We feel your pain on this one, don't worry. I had to wait for the spoiler to launch before I could get one on my car. It sucks not having parts as quickly as other groups. But good things come to those who wait and the extra time spent making sure its right is much more rewarding in the end.

If your heart is set on the springs, they wont be much longer. If you ever want to see them installed or go for a spin in a car with them prior to buying, let me know, I have every part you listed right now and I'm happy to meet and show you! You wont be disappointed with them though!

Temperature ranges are not the only concern... We also need to consider the impact of the salt that we use on our roads, difference in vehicle spec between Canada and the US, etc.

Also, whether we agree or disagree with the practice is irrelevant. As a distributor of parts and vehicles we have a responsibility to our customers to ensure that we take all the necessary steps to provide them with quality goods - this is a responsibility we take seriously. There is a very complicated process we go through when determining which accessories we will make available to our consumers... We will not sell something that has not been thoroughly tested in the Canadian environment - this prevents safety issues, unnecessary warranty claims and unhappy customers.

As a consumer myself, I would love it if we could instantly leverage anything and everything from the US and make it available in Canada. Putting on my business hat, I can also understand why we can't do that. Essentially, by performing our own testing we are protecting both ourselves and our customers from accessories that aren't necessarily cut out for Canadian vehicle duties! Believe me, it is not an easy feat balancing business requirements with personal/consumer needs!

As always, I am happy to discuss further any concerns you have via PM. We are also always open to suggestion!

Cheers,

Colin

I'm fully convinced on the TRD springs and may take you up on your offer, perhaps at TMP on the 20th or 27th!

Quick question about the temp ranges stated in the post. Do people in Alaska receive a different listing then those in Detroit?

A different listing? Meaning a different part number?
